GOOD THINGS IN MARKET THOUGH Oregon peaches are coming forward, with promise of a good crop, beautifully colored and of fine flavor, they had to yield tne first place to srraDes this week. The newest va riety to market of these is Tokay, which are bringing 20 cents a pound. Black. Princess. Malagas, and Sweetwa ter are each two pounds lor lb cents. or 35 cents a basket; sweet Malagas are 40 cents a basket. Peaches are to be had at la cents a dozen; two dozen for a quarter, and for less choice stock, from 25 cents down to 10 cents a box. Peach plums, new this week, are 30 cents a basket; Oregon this week supplies green-gage plums at 25 cents a basket; damson plums, two dozens for 15 cents, and plums, of still more plump appearance, for which a Quarter Is asked for the same quantity. Nectarines, which are Just coming In. are 50 cents a basket. A large consignment of Bartlett pears, from The Dalles, made one leel proud of our State and Its products. They are particularly fine, and 30 cents a dozen seemed moderate Indeed. Pine apples are 10 cents a pound; ripe black figs. "5 cents a pound; bananas, Booa, a dozen for a quarter; the flat, red va riety, 60 cents a dozen; pumpkins the first of the season are 4 cents a pound. Oranges range from 70, 60, 50 down to 25 cents a dozen; lemons 35 and 40 cents. California grape fruit, two for 16 cents. Watermelons are showing In larger quantities. Oregon-grown are 3 cents; California. 2 cents a pound; old-fashioned musk melons are 10, 15 and 20 cents each; casabas, 20, 30 and 35 cents each. The season for jelly-making Is reported to be right here and now, and house keepers are advised to take notice. Good Gravensteins are bringing 20 and 25 cents a dozen, and Astrakhans can be had for the .same price. The general apple crop Is reported a good average. The small fruits were represented by huckleberries, at 30 cents a pound: a few boxes of blackberries at four for a quarter, and one lone, little box of cherries! Among vegetables, one of the new comers ror the week is Brussels sprouts, retailing at two pounds for a quarter. Oregon growers are to the front with a good crop or tomatoes, for which 6 cents a pound is being given, but for some choice stock four pounds for a quarter is the quotation. Corn, of by no means "lean" appearance, can be had freely at 20 cents a dozen; cauliflower, 15 and 20 cents a head; egg plant and green peppers are each 10 cents a pound. New this week Is Hub bard squash, at 4 cents a pound, while the "Summer" variety ara 6 cents each; sweet potatoes, 6 cents a pound; "Ir ish," 12 pounds for a quarter: celery. two heads for 15 cents; fancy celery hearts, 30 cents a bunch; artichokes, two for 25 cents; head lettuce, three for 10 cents: okra (or gumbo), 20 cents a pound: cucumbers are two for 6 cents, but greenhouse stock are quoted three for 10 cents. The "stand-bys" turnips, beets, onions, radishes, gar lic, etc were of unusually fresh ap pearance and abundant In quantity. In the fish market, that luxury for average purses, black bass, was on sale this week at 40 centa a pound. The supply comes from lower down the coast than Oregon, though, for In this State the months of July, August and September are "closed" to the fishing of this epicurean variety. However, salmon at 20 cents a pound, or two pounds for 35 cents; black cod, 15 cents a pound; smelt, two pounds for 25 cents; halibut and salmon cheeks. the first 15 cents a pound, and the sec ond 20 cents a dozen; halibut. 15 cents a pound or two pounds for a quarter; shrimps, 20 cents a pound; crabs, 25 cents each, and lobsters, 40 cents a pound, make a more than passable se lection for a time of year when fish are generally considered "out of sea son. For those who must have a dally al lotment of butcher meat, whatever the temperature, it may be of Interest to know, of steaks, that the best porter house retails at 3 cents a pound; T- AMCSBMEJfTS. fC SEATS SOW SEI-UNO MAJL OKDEBS RECEIVED SOW H E I L I Cj lTth jiutMorrls) 6 bSSS&o TOMORROW Barcam Mat.
