Pennsylvania Woman Outlines Prog ress ot Temperance Work .. Throughout United States. "A campaign of two years properly conducted can wipe John BaTleycorn out of the United States," declared Daniel A. Poling, of Ohio, superintend ent of temperance in the International Christian Endeavor, at the sectional conference on temperance at the White Temple yesterday. "There exists today in the organiza tions of temperance workers," said Mr. Poling:, "more unity of purpose and less of the tendency to cotroversy over minor issues, than ever before. While each .local organisation is carrying on Its local work as appears best, there ts a stronger Nation-wide attitude of co-opt-ration between the various branches of the temperance movement than ever before. Mrs, H. H. George, of Beaver Kails, Peniu, outlined the present progress of he temperance movement. Nine states with a population of 15,000,000 persons are now under prohibition laws, she said,, and a total of 46,000,000 In the entire United States live in prohibition territory. In the report of the commission to the sectional conference, which was read by Dr. E. C. Dinwiddle, of Wash ington, D. C, an outline of plans for the future was given. "The time Is at band when the lead ers in this reform must develop and prosecute a plan of operations against liquor drinking,"- said Dr. Dinwiddle, "co-ordinate the forces for saloon sup pression, . avoid duplication of effort, decrease friction to a minimum, get a maximum of results from the least energy and expense and put the whole temperance movement on such a. sound, sane and effective business basis as will command the respect, the con fidence and the co-operation of its con stituency." Bishop Charles Scadding, of Portland, presided over this meeting. Dr. H. H. Russell, of Westerville, O., founder of the Anti-Saloon League, and others were among the speakers.
