Pendleton, of the rirm of Buffum & Pendleton, was unanimously elected a member of the Port of Port land Commission yesterday afternoon, succeeding: Joseph Goodman, whose resignation was accepted. Mr. Pendle ton Is expected to receive the post o secretary of the Commission, thouRh that office will not be filled until th June meeting:. The resignation of Mr. Goodman was In the hands of S. M. Mears, preslden of the Commission, for several week and a strong: effort made to Induce Sir. Goodman to reconsider his action, but he Insisted that It was impossible for him to (rive the port's affairs the at tentlon they demanded, so his retire mcnt was voted on yesterday. Mr. Pendleton was a member of th State Board of Pilot Commissioners fo two years, having: been appointed by Governor Benson, and his term explre 'n 1911. He was also a member of th board of trustees of the Chamber o Commerce several years nf?o and served In company with Mr. Mcars. Harbor Survey Discussed. When the question of making: a com plete survey of the harbor wa broached yesterday. Captain K. V Spencer moved that the work be car ried out. and it Is hoped to perfect a Juncture of Interests with tho Commls ion of Public Dorks, as the latter body has civil engineers available and the Port of Portland the vessels required It was brought out that the Commls sion desires first to provide 28 feet o water between harbor lines from the O.-W. R A N. brldfre to Swan Island, and In order to undertake the projec a survey la imperative. A communication from M. Talbot, reneral manager, dealt with the desire of the Water Board to have one of the dredges assigned to the task of dis ring: a trench above the Hawthorne- avenue bridge for a Bull Ran niDeline. It was said that private Interests had bid from 25 to 40 cents a yard for the dredging, and the port had made a price of $350 a day for one of the lara; clredres. I. C. O'Reilly and Mr. Tal bot will report on a solution. A claim against the Snokane. Being but one day's sail from Unlmak the ship St. Francis has reported to the Alaska Fishermen's Packing Com pany by wireless, en route from the Columbia River to Nushagak. Ttaa message was received via North Head, owing to the Astoria station of the Marconi Wireless Company being out of commission during the strike of operators. The St. Francis was In latitude 55:03 north, longitude 166:41 west at noon Wednesday. The tug North Star, .of he same fleet, was under orders to call at Scott to ascertain the location of the St. Francis and the W. B.
