RECEIPTS Or STRAWBERRIES HEAVY Firm Prices Prevail in Spit of the Large fupply. Strawberry receipts yesterday wars ths largest of tha season. A straight carload came in from Louisiana and half a car was received ' from Loa Angelas. Besides this, receipts from Florin were fairly large. There waa a good domand all day and prices were very nrm. The Louisiana fruit sold out early at 4 a crate. Tha Loa Ange lea berries brought S'-JS. For tha Florins dealers obtain -.0 on the Jessies and S3 on the Dollars." The first car of Wlnnlngstadt cabbage of tho sesson arrived from Ixs Angeles and was quoted at 8 cents. Tho California cab. bags market is strong and the next car wltl sell a quarter of a cent higher. The cool weather haa cut down receipts of local asparagus and as dealers had al ready stopped shipments of Csllfornla grsaa, the market la temporarily firmer. Good Demand for Fooltry. All kinds of poultry are In good demand, although dealers do not get over 17 H cents for bens. Broilers sell readily at 35 cents. O'd ducks sro quoted at 17 to 20 cents and large Spring ducks at 35 cents. Large young geese will bring IS to 17 cents. The veal market Is very firm, with prime calves selling at U'4 and 15 cents. Pork Is in rather large supply and drags. Eggs continue steady at the old price. Buttar and cheese are moving actively at the quotattona that have prevailed since the opening of the week. Irregular move ments marked the course of today's JocK market. The leading Issues were Inclined to Improve. At the same time, moro than 80 stocks touched new levels for the year. Most of these stocks were of secondary im. portance. aitnouau mo nni . rm Pacific, New Haven and Baltimore Although Reading. Lehigh, Union Pacific, Amalgamated and a number ot other prom inent Issues ruled a point or more higher at times, this Improvement could not be said to reflect a growth In confidence or buvlng power. The.demand, aeemed to arise chiefly from short coverings, and whenever stocVs were offered, other than the specu lative factors In which there has been heavy selling recently, it was necessary to make sharp concessions to find a market. Early European advices regarding the in ternational political altuatlon were "ore cheerful and London bought about 1000 shares here on balance. Whatever help was derived from this source, however, was minimised by the persistent weakness of a long list of atocks. Southern Pacifio sold off two points to 05H on the adverse de cision of the lower court In the Oregon California land grant case. New Haven broke over four points o 106. on the high ly unfavorable March statement, disclosing a decrease in net revenue of $809,000. Read ing's net earnings from all companies de creased ll.246.00O. Easing off In the de mand for steel products and a growing spirit of caution on the part of buyers were re. ported In the weekly trade reviews. in spite of this tendency and the somewhat disappointing quarterly report of the steel corporation, steel was held up well.
