According- to the box scores. Port
land has soma hall wonders In ffl'm,
Kr'rr. D"ne. fsh'r, et al. Whether
ther are Hindus or Persians the box
scores do not Indicate but one thing
sure, they-re not bail players calcu
lated to win many gonfalons In the
Coast League If they continue at their
present clip.
Los Angeles let the Beavers grab off
a rood lead yesterday, before a Sun
day crowd of 8500. and then Dillon's
men proceeded to bat out a victory,
to 7. which gives thera four consecu
tlve wins and one tie for the series.
Tbe loss was the seventh straight for
Portland and whisper it gently puts
us down In the cellar below the Seals.
Five pitchers were flung Into th
breach by the rival managers, Carson
and Krause for Portland, and Crabbe,
Rogers and Perrltt for the Angels. The
hits were 12 and 11. Perrltt gets
credit for the victory. Inasmuch as the
score stood tied. 7-7. In the seventh
Inning, and Krause Is charged with tbe
defeat.
3flsjada-ed Fly Cents Game
But. If Krause Is on speaking terms
with "Dutch" Krueger this morning.
he is tbe champion optimist of the
world.
Krause relieved Carson in the sev
enth Inning with a couple of men on
the bags and the score ( to 3 In favor
of Portland. When he had concluded
the Inning the Angels were sitting on
the heap by a score of S to 7, and all
because the aforesaid Krueger. one of
the greatest Judges of fly bails In the
country, miscalculated a drive by Ellis
which went for three bags.
Ellis' fluke triple scored two runs
and the southpaw outfielder also tal
lied on Moore's second hit. Those
three runs turned the tide and the sad
part of It Is that Ellis would have been
the third out for the Inning.
Derrick's three-bagger and a pinch
wallop by Qua Fisher tied the score for
Portland In the last of the seventh In
elng. but Planer spoiled his good day
by threwtas wild to second on a don
ble steal by Howard and Johnson In
the eighth frame and Howard trotted
homeward with the clinching run.
Beavers Bit Ball I lard.
Yesterday was the first time In ten
days that the Beaver had clouted the
ball for runs. Cunningham. Lindsay
and Doane hammered Crabbe for two
runs In tha first Inning; Lindsays ter
rlflo pinch poke in the second inning
tallied two mora, and when Derrick
hammered In a fifth run in the next
frame, things looked rosy for Port
land.
Carson meanwhile was going great
guns. But tbe "soldier" began to
weaken a trifle In the fifth Inning,
when Johnson soaked a home run over
tbe tight field fence. The next Inning
a walk and hits by Ellis and Moore
added two mora and Mccredle there
for deemed It wise to derrick Al In
the seventh, when he began by walking
Johnson, after Gill had beaten out an
Infield hit.
This was the signal for the pyro
technics with which Harry Krause waa
greeted, and which caused Manager
McCredle to chafe on the bench and
sarcastically remark that the price of
beer on the hoof must have gone up
like a balloon when they sold him the
stuff he trots around the marathon as
a ball club.
McCredle L'sea IS Players.
McCredle need 13 men In an effort
to win. but to no avalL When he saw
that Cunningham wasn't playing bat
ters right, he sent Chadboure back to
left field; when he saw that Hell man n
was too nervous to hit well he sent
Koran in at short; when Carson gave
the first sign of a wobble he ampu
tated him and now he's dickering with
the turnstile men to supplant the
bunch.
Bill Lindsay had his usual great day
with th bat. securing three blngles.
which Jumped his season average from
.400 to a mere .414. He will stick an
other week before being sent to some
bush team like New York or Boston
or tbe Portland Colts. The score:

SPOKANE, April 20. -(Special.) Bpo
kana's goat was securely padlocked to
the Portland bench today and the
speedy visitors romped away with a
4-2 score, and four of the six played
this week. Roughly estimated, Mc
Credle pocketed $1800 as his share of
the week's receipts and It's easy to I
guess Mohler's answer to "Are we hap- I
py?"
Nearly 6000 fans, bugs and nuts saw
the Indians get their trimming. It was
a loyal turnout and no Spokane team
ever had any more assistance from the
stands than the Indians got In the stir
ring seventh and eighth Innings batting
rallies, but the Red Skins couldn t quite
overcome, by prowess of bat, the big
handicap of a shaky Inner defense. The
Infield got four "errors and every one
or Portland s runs but one may be
laid directly to the poor fielding.
RIsberg, the California boy, pitched
brilliant ball for Spokane and deserved I
a better outcome. To rub the defeat
Into Spokane more thoroughly, the tall-
end of Portland's batting list did the
timely hitting. Bobby Coltrin earned
ms laurels.
Portland was. first to score, Murray
reaching flrft in the third on a bobble
by Morse and taking second on a passed
balL Coltrin Jammed a single to left,
scoring Murray. Coltrin figured in
Portland's next two runs. One in the
seventh, Bobby singled and was forced
at second, but the man who forced him
scored on another error by Morse and I
Speas' hard single to left.
Gulgnl singled in the eighth and was
safe at second when RIsberg tried un-f
successfully to force him on Mahoney'a I
bunt. Williams' sacrifice moved both I
runners up and Gulgnl scored on Col-
trln's hot drive that tore through RIs
berg s glove.
Portland's run in the ninth "was the
result of a pass to Speas, a sacrifice I
by Mohler and a slow-rolling ground
Dan to nrst base.
Spokane made a strong bid for the I
contest in the eighth, but Speas broke!

Notes of the Game.
Umpires Held and Newhousa officiated
like major leaguers yesterday.
.Doane Is playing a swell fielding same Is
right and his throwing is excellent, even
though bis batting Is down to .178. In
Saturday's game Walter negotiated a spark
ling catch off Gill in the1 ninth that aaved
a score.
Fisher had a run-in with Johnson at sec
ond base and poked the Chicago kid gently
under the chin. He was hissed by the
crowd. Fisher was in the right, as Johnson
bad called him an unprintable name when
Gus Insisted that he was safe. The Angel
later apologized.
Howard kicked on a decision at first base
that made him appear ridiculous. He. ran
about three feet out of the lines to avoid
being tagged by Derrick and. whether
touched or not. was legally retired.
Bill Rodgera got on the bases four times
in five trips yesterday. He secured two
walks and one hit and drove a hot one
through shortstop that missed the hit col
umn by only a narrow margin.
Derrick looked like the champion ball
player of the world yesterday when he
struck his batting stride.
