    HOP CROP SILLER
Oregon Yield May Have Been
Overestimated at Harvest.
VISIBLE SUPPLY IS LIGHT
Shipment to Date Have Not Conic
Vp lo Expectation Prices May
Have to Be Adjusted ' to
Meet the New Condition.
!-p dealers are beginning; to thin that
the W12 crop In this state aas overestimat
ed. Exact figure on which to rase the
yield ar not yet available, but If the re
ported hlpments to date are correct and the
stoeka left In the handa of growers ana
dealers are, rightly figured out.N the Oregon
crop was considerably less than was esti
mated at the time, of harveat.
l"p to this time the dealers had placed
' the crop at somewhere between 115.000 and
12.1.000 bales. If It should be proved that
the yield was SO.000 bales less than was
thought. It will make a big; difference in
market conditions from now on. and will
fully Justify the present strong; prices.
The demand continues good, but the of
ferlnas on the market are amall and mainly
of the lower grades. The Crlasell lot of
STS bales at Aurora, was sold yesterday to
Mlshler ft Grtbble at 154 cents. The
Grecir lot of 104 bales tn the Banks aection
waa sold at about IS cents. Klaber, Wolf &
Netter bought several lots locally at 16
cents.
The California market was active. There
were sales of 1100 bales of Sonomas In the
past two days at 14 cents.
London hop factors' circulars say of the
English market:
Wild. Neame A Co. A good many hops
have been sold during the past week at cur
rent quotattona and a rather better feeling
prevails on our market.
Manger Henley. Trade during the past
week has run chiefly on the useful copper
hops and a fair amount of business has fol
lowed In this class. Prices remain quotably
unchanged.
W. H. ft H. Le May A considerable quan
tity of hops changed hands last wek.
Prices now being accepted by the growers
are Inducing consumers to cover their re
quirements. At Worcester on Saturday the trade was
reported to be rather more brisk, consum
ers having taken advantage of the low prices
to buy in their stocks. Trices are firmer,
but not quotably higher. The demand was
chiefly on good medium and cheaper grades
!nir-8 WEAK IN WORLD'S MARKETS
Great rot Drop Itaa Been In Month Americma
Varieties.
The reaction in the hide market, which
is carrying prices downward In all parts of
the country. Is not confined to any one
variety, but embraces all kindsof hides. The
weakness is aleo felt in every market In the
world. Advices Just received from Chlcaso
say:
"harp decljnea have occurred almost daily
this week, and priees have been carried to a
lower level on some descriptions than has
been recorded In several months. Country
buff cowhide have declined I He from the
top rates of Itkr of three weeks ago down
tn 14c for good Ohio buffs. Chicago calf
skins have declined 14c in a little over a
week and are 2o under the top rntes of a
month ago. The decline In packer hides has
as ret been comparatively small, not being
over c to 1c on native varieties and only
i,r to ,jc on branded hides, but this is ow
ing to the fact that the packers are not
selling at present, knowing the exteremely
weak condition of the market.
An especially sharp break has occurred in
foreign dry hides, with a decline of His on
common varieties of Latin -Americans from
the top rates secured last vck. Owing to
Increased receipts of these, sales have been
large, amounting to about S.I.OHO on the
basis of -?c for Orinocos and mountain Bo
gota and 2Sc for Central Americans and
Puerto-Cabelloa. etc. The greatest drop of
all. however, has been In River Platte va
; rictles. and further declines of about 2c this
week have brought values of these down
fully 3c from the top quotations of a short
time ago.
RWKNT FAI.I. TEXAS MOIIAtK .SALES
Prices Range From SI to 37 Cents, and Kid
lair Brings Vp to 45 tents.
There have been several falr-slsed sales
ox Kail Texas mohair during the past week
at good prices, says the Boston Commercial
Bulletin. No. 1 Texas has been sold at 37
cents and No. - at 33 cents, while good kids
hair Is held at 404r4.- cents. There has been
no particular demand for foreign hair, sup
plies here being limited.
There Is little new to be said with refer
ence to the mohair situation In the English
markets, although some profess to see a
slightly steadier tone In the trade there. De
mand from certain Continental markets has
born somewhat better, but no weights of
raw material have been moved.
In the primary markets there is little new
being doneiAT-owstantinople nothing In
the way of business is being placed. At the
Cape a fair trade in Winter hair Is still
being done, values remaining firm en the
basis quoted a week ago.
CHRISTMAS TURKEY RECEIPTS SHORT
Dealers Uncertain as to the Snpply Avail
able la the Country.
Arrivals of dressed turkeys are still lim
ited and dealers are beginning to wonder
whether the Christmas supply will be sufficient-
Tbe market was quoted firm yes
terday at S3 to 25 cents, according to qual
ity. There was the usual Friday trade In live
poultry, and as the eupply was moderate,
prices were easily maintained. Dressed meats
were steady.
Kggs were quoted at a wide range on the
street, but there was not the weak feeling
In the market, taken as a whole,, that pre
vailed a few days ago. In some quarters
It was believed the recent decline was too
rapid.
No ehane-s were reported in the butter
or cheese markets.
tiOOO EXPORT J LOCK TRADE WORKED
IIoine-sa Done Mainly With the North China
Torta.
A good export flour trade has been worked
in the past 1" days for January. February
and March shipment. The operations have
been mainly with the North China ports,
hut some business has also been done with
Japan, and sales have likewise been made
for shipment to Manila.
The wheat market was reported quiet yes
terday, but with a firm undertone. There
was a moderate demand, but offerings were
limited.
There were no changes In local barley or
oats markets.

CHICAGO. Dec. 20. After a listless fore
noon the grain markets here became sud
denly active and firm, wheat closing s to
Hc higher. Heavy general rains extend
ing over the entire wheat belt of the Argen
tina, where harvesting Is in progress, was
the first bullish news of the day. The trade
Ignored it for a time, but when a private
authority was rumored and the rumor
lacked either confirmation or denial to
have estimated the Canadian crop at 50.
000,000 less than the Government, wheat
suddenly became well worth having. Spec
ulators, who have -been negatively bullish,
suddenly became active and shorts got from
under.
All this occurred despite a sluggish cash
market and a heavy movement to primary
points, today's receipts being almost treble
the quantity of the corresponding day a
year ago. Grainladen trains are congested
from Minneapolis and Duluth hundreds of
miles to the West. May ranged between
90 He and 91 c, closing c up, at 91

A poor cash market and excellent weather
for shelling, conditioning and shipping in
fluenced the corn market early, but strength
developed with the latter advance In wheat.
May closed at 4Uc.
Oats closed at the top. with shorts cover

There was considerable speculative buying
of provisions and the close was from 7
