THE- MOKMXi OKEUOSIAA, TUESDAY. DECElLBEli 1., BUTTER PRICE WEAK Advance in Local Market Has Been Checked. TRADE RATHER UNSETTLED Hc.ilcr-. ln Not Think tlic Eastern t'oiiiill.''Ion!' w'" IIavc Mnch Ilffct l nil (he Situation Here. i:sr Sftcudlly Calling. Local Ijiiltcr dealrre ilo not expect prices here to be much affected by the complica tions at Chicago and Elgin, but that UI depend, of course, on the, extent to which the Eastern markets respond to the drive at storase butter. So far as fresh Kastern butter Is concerned It Is hard to buy even at the current price. The make of local butter Is not heavy, and tinder normal con dIUons the market would be firm. The whole situation Is unsettled, however, by the position In which the stnrae operators are placed and the uncertainty as to what will be the outcome. There Is no possibility of Ktmtern storage butter being raised to any hlsh figure, and If it Is forced below the present quotation of 31 to 12 cents the profits of the specu latora will be cut -cnto. Therefore, the dealers here believe that prlcea will be held about where they are. None of. them think there is much chance of the local market advancing In the near future. There Is more Interest In the egg than In the butter market Just now. Egg prices are rolng down at the rate of a cent a day and there Is no telling when the slump will slop unless the weather changes. Candled stock was quoted yesterday at 3.3 cents and current receipts were offered at 306-3 cents. Offers to buy in the, country were around 3S cents.
