MORE INQUIRY IN OREGON
Eastern Trade Nvants -the Bos'

Hig-her November 20.
The revival In the hop market, for which
growers and dealers have been waiting,

In business In this state, a. only the best
grade ot hops Is wanted and these the grow,

ent prices.
In the Yakima section yesterday over BOO
bales of good hops were sold at 18Vi to 20
rents. Tnis is the ftrst trading reported
anywhere on tie Coast since the election,
but the presence of orders In the various
markets for the best quality is likely to re
sult la more general buying In the next few
There has been a moderate Inquiry for
the lower grades at prices varying accord
ing to quality, but these hops are not ex
pected to move freely until the better kinds
are disposed of. "
The new freight rates, which are a quar
ter of a cent a pound higher than the pres
ent rates, will go Into effect on November
20. It may be that some of the interest
of buyers now Is due to this fact.
AUSTRALIAN WOOL Cl.IV IS ' SHORT
One Leading Authority Estimates) the De
rrraw st 300,000 Bales.
The shortage ro the Australian wool clip
this year may have considerable effect on
the world's prices In the coming season.
There is still some uncertainty as to size
of the clip. Da'.gcty Cp. have raised
their estimates of the shortage to 300,0)0
bales. This flrnfts previous estimate of the
shortage was 2."0.n0 bales.
A recent dispatch from a Sydney author
ity says that some representative clips this
year are to 30 per cent lighter than they
were last season: also that some sheep have
cut two pounds less and that It has taken
(0 fleeces In some sheds to (111 a bale,
whereas 50 to 00 sufficed last year. Another
report says that many of the Blverlna Bocks
are cutting from 1 -J, to 2 pounds less per
head than those of last jc-b
Other advices, however, discount the fore
going reports. Even this season 100 sheep
have filled three bales on more than one
large property. Ktatementa made that
South Australian sheep were cutting fleeces
as bulky and quite as sound as those of
last year have been confirmed by cablegrams
regarding the wool already sold in the Ade
laide mark-!.
From an owner in New South Walts
comes the statement that the sheep have
cut light fieed-s. He shears 70.000 sheep
and expects to find his clip some hundreds
of bales less than that of 1611. ' Another
large owner there states that his average
win be one-fifth lower, taking all his prop
erties .into consideration.
DECLINING TENDENCY IN WHEAT
With Ksuitern Buying Stopped. Prices Are
Drifting Downward.
The Northwestern wheat market again
appears to be sagging down to the export

exportt-rs quoted a cent lower than this.
There were stlii offers, however, of the old

small way at this figure for milling pur
poses. Had the selling been free, the price
would not have stood long, but the farmers
were very slow in offering.
Oats continued firm, with choice white

interest in barley.

WHEAT MOVEMENT GREAT
With the Election Over Business Is
Forging Ahead Faster Unus

the Wool Market.
NEW YORK. Nov. 8. R. G. Dun Co.'B
weekly review of trade tomorrow will say: -
With the Balkan situation less menacing
to world peace, though still serious, and with
the uncertainties of the National election at
a,n end, the business outlook is improved.
This is reflected in the Increased buoyancy
of the financial markets and in expansion of
trade and industry. .
A situation that is based on an unpreced
ented movement of wheat and a record
breaking production of pig Iron can be de
scribed by no other word than prosperous.
Every department of business experiences
the uplift and expansion which result, first
from the tremendous crops and, second,
from the restored confidence and credit.
Leather and hides continue very strong.

TENDENCY OF WOOL PRICES HIGHER
Result of Election Has no New Effect 00
the Market.
BOSTON. Nov. 8. The Commercial Bulle
tin will say: A Democratic Congress has
hn elected, as was expected, and wool has
remained firm, as also mi expected. The
tendency of prices, indeed, is higher ana in
one or two Instances, slight advances have
been made.
No one in the trade today exhibits any
signs of weakness because supplies are too
short to cause m-orry. Were there sup
piles of raw and manufactured material in
the market as there were In 1992, a decided
slump would unquestionably have resulted
from the election.
All the world's markets are firm and tend
ing upward. No cancellations of any mo
ment at least are reported in the goods mar

LATE RALLY IN STOCKS
MARKET IS HELPED XEAR THE
CLOSE BY CROP REPORT.
Tone of Values Earlier In the Day Is
Heavy Bonds Are
Irregular.
NEW YORK. Nov. 8. Stocks were again
reactionary today, opening with a wide va
riety of losses, which were somewhat ex
tended by midday, but making up much of
their decline towards the end. A factor to
ward the recovery was the Government crop
report. Issued in the final hour. Thus fully
confirmed the brilliant outlook of the past
few months, especially as to corn.
Prior to the issuance of the agricultural
atsrement almost all stocks of importance
displayed vaiytng degrees of heaviness. Fore-J
most among tnese were iouisviim sc r,su-vllle,-
which yielded three points, while the
Ha
srrimans, the Canadian group, grangers,
alers and trunk lines were off 1 to
coa
points.
The leading Industrials also suffered from
persistent selling. United States Steel de
clining over one and a half points, with a
similar loss fort Amalgamated Copper and
other metal issues. Ltnh Copper, however,
went higher on the excellent showing of the
third quarter of the year.
Lora money conditions were mildly dis
turbing, call loans being quoted lit JH to
6 per cent.
Bonds were irregular, with total sales, par
value, J2. 125.000. United States Government
bonds were unchanged.
