Samuel White, ex-state chairman of the Democratic committee, and one of the prominent Democrats of 'Multno mah County, has issued a statement In which he repudiates the candidacy of H. D. WagnorT for County As sessor. Mr. White declares that Mr. Wagnon is running, not as 'a Demo crat but as a single tax advocate of the Henry George school and absolves every Democrat, who is opposed to single tax, from voting for Mr. Wagnon. The statement of Mr. White, which is addressed to the Democratic voters of Multnomah County, follows: "For fear that some Democrats may vote for IT. IX Wagnon, who is a candidate for the office of Assessor on the Democratic ticket, not knowing or understanding the things for which he stands. I wish to say to the public that Mr. Wagnon is running not as a Democrat, but as a single taxer of the Henry George type. While he re ceived the Democratic nomination in the primaries, there ' being no other candidate against him, he is now ap pealing to the single tax voters for support on the strength of his being a sinele taxer. No Democrat who Is not In favor of single tax is under any obligation to vote for him, by reason of his being 'on the Democratic tifVer. hut every Democrat who does not believe in the single tax should vote against him. "Slneie tax in its final analysis means confiscation of all lands to the state. In other words, It means state ownership of all lands and state landlordism, which Is Henrv oeorge lsm pure and simple.
