COLONEL TO DECIDE
Visits to Vancouver and Salem
Rest With Guest.
SEATS RESERVED AT $1
Local Committee Sets Aside Section
for Big Meeting in Gipsy
Smith Auditorium Clubs
to Entertain T. R.
It is up to Colonel Roosevelt whether
he visits Vancouver. Wash., and Salem,
and makes addresses .Wednesday, Sep
tember 11. the day he has devoted to
Portland. So far as the local commit
tee on arrangements has been advised
there -will be no changes in the pro
gramme it has arranged and this pro-
gramme makes no provision for the
two out-of-town meetings.
The committee has decided to reserve
BOO or 600 seats in the body of tne
Gipsy Smith Auditorium, where Roose
velt will deliver his Portland address,
for the convenience of visitors to the
city and those local residents who, at
an outlay of Jl per seat, may desire
to make reservations. These seat
have been placed on sale at the Bull
Moose headquarters in tne uregon
Hotel.
In view of the large attendance that
is expected at the luncheon by the
Ad Club and the Rotary ciuo at- ine
Multnomah Hotel, when Roosevelt will
be the guest of honor, the executive
committee of the Ad Club has notified
its membership that those members in
good and regular standing will be
riven nreference at the luncheon. Fear
ful that the club will not be able to
care for those desiring to attend, it
is announced that admission win De Dy
membership card only.
The headquarters of the Bull Moose
party in the Oregon Hotel were for
mally opened last night with a "house
warming" that was attended by a great
many members of the new party, in
cluding a delegation from the Women's
Roosevelt Club. Dr. Levi W. Myers and
others made short addresses. Cigars
were served the gentlemen.
FULTON JOINS BOWERMAN
Ex-Senator of Oregon and ex-State
Senator to Be Law Partners.
C. W. Fulton. ex-United States Sen
ator, and Jay Bowerman. ex-President
of the Oregon Senate, have -formed a
law partnership.
After serving a lumber of years in
the Oregon Senate from ciatsop
Countv, Mr. Fulton, in the general elec
tion of 1300. was elected United States
Senator. Retiring from the Senate in
1S06. Mr. Fulton resumed the practice
of law at Astoria, but in the following
year removed to Portland.
Mr. Bowerman was reared in Marion
County, where he was graduated from
the law department of Willamette Uni
versity in the early '90s. Locating at
Condon. Gilliam County, he began the
practice of his profession. In 1904 he
was elected state senator irom tne dis
trict embracing Gilliam. Sherman and
Wheeler Counties and four years later
was re-elected. During his second
term the election of Governor Cham
berlain to the United States Senate and
the subsequent death of Governor-Secretary
Benson combined to make Mr.
Bowerman, who was then President of
the State Senate, Acting-Governor, an
office he filled for several months. Fol
lowing the general election in Govern
ber, 191, Mr. Bowerman removed to
Portland.
TILLAMOOK MOOSE FEW
Address of G. A. Brown Heard by 20
Roosevelt Admirers.
TILLAMOOK, Or.. Sept. 2. (Special.)
G. A.- Brown, of the state organiza
tion of the Bull Moose party, deliv
ered an address here Saturday. About
30 persons interested in the movement
were present. The small attendance
was somewhat of a disappointment to
those who had arranged the meeting.
Mr. Brown's address was confined to
extolling Roosevelt and denouncing
the Republican party. President Taft.
the Democratic party and Candidate
Wilson.
Attorney J. L. Anderson presided.
Attorney H. T. Botts, who was state
committeeman for this county the past
two years, and who was the defeated
candidate for joint Senator on the Re
publican ticket at the primary elec
tion, has joined the new party, to the
surprise of many.
Another 3Men was called at the
Courthouse in the evening for the pur
pose of organizing, but it did not
create much interest.
WASHINGTON MILL BURNED
Plant of D. & M. Lumber Company
?ear Taeoma to Be Rebuilt.
TACOMA. Sept. 2. Fir. last Saturday
night destroyed the sawmill of the D.
A M. .Lumber Company at South Prairie.
25 miles from Tacoma. The crew saved
the planing mill, machinery and the
lumber yard, containing 3.500.000 feet
of lumber. The loss is estimated at
1100.000. with insurance of 170,000.
President K. W. Demarest says the mill
will probably be rebuilt, as the com
pany has enough timber there to last
eight years.
The same company operated the Fa-clfie-N'ational
Lumber Company at Na
tional, on the Taeoma Eastern Railway,
whose mill was burned in May last.
