SAIL LASTS 25 MINUTES Biplane Tours City Overhead and Nervousness oi Fair Passenger Gives Place to Exhilaration aa Ship Gains Height. When the crowd dared Aviator Ber lin to take Miss Bernice Agnew up In his biplane yesterday afternoon at the Country Club the girl stepped into the machine and the Canadian skyman shot 950 feet in the air with the first woman passenger that was ever car ried any considerable distance in an air craft in Portland. Mr. Berlin and Miss Agnew were talking when ' the crowd that stood around the biplane began to jest. The girl turned her back on the crowd and courageously got lnto the machine. When the bystanders saw what she intended to-do a little cheer went up and this Increased in volume when the aviator took his seat and the air craft glided from the ground at the first start. They soared far up, 950 feet, ac cording to Mr. Berlin's estimate, cir cled over the principal buildings of the city and then returned to the club and alighted without the least dif ficulty. They were in the air 25 min utes. Miss Agnew was none of the worse for her experience. She acknowledged that she was a little soared at the start but that after she got up in the. air the exhilaration overcame all nervousness. The flight made by the couple was a perilous one.
