Prospects for Oats and Wheat Are Also
Fine in Lebanon Section.
LEBANON. Or.. July 10. (Special.) The
farmers of Eastern Linn County are now In
the midst of taking care of the largest hay
crop ever harvested in the county. The
farmers are calling for help to care for
the crop, and there seems little need for
an Idle man In the county who la able to
work.
The farmers are taking advantage of the
good weather and are rapidly filling their
barns and putting the hay Into the stack
for the balers.
The prospects for the oat and wheat crop
la also the very best. The Fall grain Is
now nearly ready for the binder and the
yield Is expected to be good. Everything

RUST IS SPREADING
Now Reported in Wheat Fields

JUMP IN CHICAGO PRICES
Talk of Damage by Hessian Fly and
Blight Also Has Effect Move-,
ment of New Grain Prov
. Ing? Disappointment.
CHICAGO. July 12. Rust reports today
from two states, as against two counties
heretofore, gave the wheat market a decid
ed upward slant. There was a nervous
close, with prices llHc over last night.
Final trades In corn ranged from unchanged
to Tic up and oata showed a rise of c to
S14c provisions were strung out from 15c
off to she same level as 24 hours ago.
It was on mews that black rust had ap
peared, in the northern part of South Dakota
that the wheat market touched the high
point of the session. There was talk of
damage in the Northwest by Hessian fly and
blight. Bullish sentiment gained consider
able Impetus from the fact that the move
ment of new wheat waa proving a disap
pointment. Primary receipts were less than
one-fourth those of a year ago and there
were heavy rains last night in the South
west, where harvesting was still In progress.
Excess of moisture in the Spring crop coun
try was also a cause of complaint.
Lightness of receipts here had a strength
ening effect on the market for corn.
Oats worked higher, owing chiefly to un
easiness of July shortf, who were uncom
fortable as a result of smallness of stocks
in Chicago.
Signs of a falling off in European de
mand for lard acted as a drag on the pro
vision market. The average drop was 714c
