Intrertlns features of the parade
were the costumes and floats of the
lodges it Ekajrvajr d Juneau, Alaska,
the Philippine 'Islands and Porto Rico.
Not allowing; distance to be an obstacle,
Elks from these remote parts were on
hand with many features of Interest,
which were made an Important part of
the parade. Twenty Elks from Ekasr
way and Juneau, Alaska, were nestled
in automobiles attractively decorated
wita purple. They, filled toa. &lr with
merry shouts and greeting's from the
far North. '
Ten lodge members were in the pa
rade from the Philippine Islands and
made a big; hit with native costumes
of hemp coats, Manila straw hats- and
fancy shoes of native manufacture.
They were headed by P. M. Coyle, Q.
A. Miller and T. Bogue, of Miami, Fla.

decorated carriage.

VANCOUVER, Wash., July 11. (Spe
cial.) "A city deserted" waa Vancou
ver today., with, all o the business
houses closed and several thousand of
the residents 'n Portland watching the
grand Elks' parade.
At 8 o'clock today a special train
bearing the 200 Elks, in white and
purple suits, and 200 friends left for
Portland. The ferry accommodated
thousands more during the day. One
hundred and twenty-nine business
nouses and, professional inea signed an
agreement to close tor the day and as
this included the most prominent places
in the city, many others closed (With
out signing.
Elks from 16 different states have
registered in.the Elks' Home of this
city during the past two days and'
many others failed to register. .
