Fisher's Brave Im Fatal. Mohler brought in the vital score. With one out he opened with a clean single to center. Hartley failed on a hit-and-run signal, but Mobjer made second in safety and raromed all the .-. way around to third when Catcher Fisher pegged to center field. Evi dently one ot the planks In Hartley's platform Is that a hit n the pinch Is worm two in the box score, for he sin gled . through short and sent Mohler across the plate. Corhan also hit. but was caught stealing. From that on the 6000 badge-be decked rooters witnessed an air-tight came. The Beavers simply could not fathom Miller, who had them hitting wildly Into the air. For six innings First Baseman McArdle of the Seals did not have a putout. probably a league rec ord. Miller walked not a man and as the visitors played: errorless ball the two hits represented the only men to reach first base. Mohler was the only Seal credited with an assist -tier aaa Raaps Bit. Butler and Rapps were the Beaver Lajoies, each banging out a two-bag. ger only to die a peaceful death at the keystone. If you wish further cor roboration of Miller's terrific speed and dazzling breaks, consult Hank Butcher, the Cleveland slugger, who mad his bow, before a Portland audience. The Stocky outfielder struck out twice and popped a foul fly to Wuffli on his at tempt. He played in left in Chad bourne's place and looks like the goods. Klawitter wallowed In deep trouble only once after the first Inning, then through the agency of Mundorft's spec tacular dash from first to third on Mohler's sacrifice bunt. Hartley fol lowed with a walk, but on an attempted doubts steal Mundorff was nabbed at tne piate on .two parieci tiirows oj Fisher and Butler. Simultaneously Corhan fanned and thus retired the side on the double. The fans got their first peep at the youngster, Wuffli, traded by Spokane for the Altman-Powell-Noyes combina tion. Wuffli wa8 under critical eyes yesterday, but did not falter. Two hits came as his portion of the punching and if you ask Cal Ewing today what B. P. O. E. signifies he will promptly reply: "Wuffli Best Plunker on Earth." Both teams enjoyed the sunshine and played accordingly. Portland found Thompson a serious obstacle when a hit was needed, and, on the other hand, Seattle was lucky in crowding theirs into limited space. Whaling's throwing was deadly ac curate, which cut off the runners at second and had much to do with pre venting the Colts from getting a start. Jackson's timely two-bagger put the finishing touch on a game ' that had been any one's to that point. Final score, Seattle 7, Portland 2. . - . j . Portland's two runs were due to- wild pitch in the second, when two were out and the bases full, and Speas' homer In the sixth. The Colts had men on the sacks frequently, but Thompson choked them off. Colts Lose Chance. Portland's best chance, outside of the second; was in the eighth, when they got three hits and filled the sacks, Again Thompson came to his own res cue with the tanning process, Harris and Bloomfield falling victims. Cruikshank muffed a fly- and Wil liams threw a ball Into a runner's back In the sixth, the eventual result being two rum on good sprinting by Thomp son and Raymond, but the incident did not affect the outcome. as Seattle had enough to win anyway. Seattle .scored on the first Inning on a couple of hits and Bloomfield s lack of control. : Mann drove over one and Bloomfield forced In the other. After two were out In the seoond, Portland filled the bases on two passes and a hit by pitcher. Thompson drove the ball into the ground and let in one run. McDowell Walks Thrice. . In the fifth Raymond, Strait and Mann got singles In a row. . Raymond came over on an Infield out and Jack son's liner over first, which took a bad bound and let in the other two. One out in the sixth, Speas hit for a home run. There was no more scoring, although Portland 'had the bases bulging in the ighth. Speas and Mann led in the hit ting with three each. McDowell had the odd record of walking three con secutive times, scoring: once and then bitting for a single. The score: - Seattl Ab H To A E Shaw.3b. 4 2 8 2 1 Rayd.as 4 12 10 Stralt.lf. 5 2 3 0 0!
