Millers in Martet in Small Way
for New Crop. '
EXPORTERS HOLDING BACK
I Foreign Trade Checked by Weakness
and Uncertainty Abroad and by
High Price of Ships Spot
Market Is" Dull.
Aside from a small demand for new wheat
r .millers for late July and early August
.hiDment. there is no business passing In
the new crop market. Exporters are ham
pered In their operations by the high and
steadllT adrancinc freight rate and the un
certain market conditions on the other side.
Cargoes were quoted dull and weak yester
day at Ss d for September-October ship
ment.' Private cables reported many sellers
an te market.
Usually there is considerable buying by
Exporters at this season of year, but It is
probable the market this year will be slow
er In opening, and the exporters may wait
until the millers have secured their early
wants. There were a few buyers on the
market yesterday, and offerings were freer
than they have been for some time past.
No trading waa reported In the spot wheat
market and prices were more or less nom
inal around 14 cents on club and 87 cents
on bluestem.'
There Is some Oriental demand for flour,
but with no transportation exporters are un
able to consider the business.. Local receipts
in cars were reported by the Merchants Ex

linn Prices Prevail In Most Line Several
. fars Held Up In Alblna Yards. -

ceived. The peaches sold at 75 90 cents!
and the plums at $161.48. Climax plums
bringing the top price. Several cars of fruit
were back of the Albioa freight wreck, but
could not be reached during the day be
cause of tba movement of so many passen
ger specials.
Two cars of watermelons came in. There
was a big demand tor them it cents a
pound. Cantaloupes were strong.

fHlN'OOK SALMON IN ACTIVE DEMAND
Eawtera Orders Are Betas; Freely Confirmed
On AH Sizes.
The Eastern market for Columbia River
salmon Is active, according to the New York
Journal of Commerce, which says:
"At the opening prices of $1.95 for tails.
$2 for flats, and $1.25 ' for halves, buslnei
In 1912 Spring pack Columbia River salmon
has been active during the past two days
and advance orders have been freely con
I firmed. There has been some grumbling
among buyers over the 5c advance on the
price of halves compared with -last year's
opening figures on that size, but it has not
prevented buyers from confirming their ad
vanced commitments for halves, which were
made subject to approval of opening prices
long In advance of the packing season.
"The new pack Is coming oa a virtually
bare market and buyers are eager to get de
liveries on their- orders. According to some
reports the confirmation of orders on halves
has been less free than on No. 2 tails and
flats, because of the greater differential be
tween thep rice ot ta former slbe and that
of the others."

HOP TRADE
Attention of
Elks' Convention Takes I'p
Many Dealers.
Hop men do not expect much business to
be done this week. Nearly all the dealers
are Elks and they have other things on their
minds now than the market. O'rders for the
new crop were not plentiful yesterday.
There are now only 356 bales of 1911a
left in growers' hands in Oregon. Several
lots were disposed of last week at 25 to
28 cents. Of the unsold stock, two lots only
sre ot carlot size.

NEW YORK. July 8. Last week's poor

two cents, the market later recovered much
of the loss. - Much selling came from im

corn market upward. Private experts esti

wheat and because of the . fine growing
weather.
