draw-span of the Morrison bridge
while the river parade waa passing
last night, the nabor patrol made a
dash to tha scene and aent out a show
er of rescue lines and buoys, only to
see tha supposed drowning man glide
gracefully away from the rescue ap
paratus and laugh heartily. The would
be rescuers trained their light on the
man and found that he was attired In
bathing suit and a Festival cap. He
explained that ba sought the bathing
route aa the best mesne of seeing the
parade and forthwith swam away from
he patrol boat so that his view of
he approaching parsdo would not be
obstructed.
Hardly had the patrol boat left the
scene than tha United States customs
patrol caught alght of the bather and
hurried to his rescue. Disgusted with
the succees 01 his endeavors to see the
pageant from the water, he swam to
the edge of the bridge pier and perched
himself on a leg. The Festival revelers
wj.o stood on the bridge above him
wore overcoats, but the bather seemed
to be comfortable and warm. When the
parade had passed he made
a graceful plunge into the water and
swam toward the docks on the east
side of the. river south of the bridge.
