Crop Conditions Good In Most States
Except' Kansas Com Weakened
by Heavy Kecelpts Rapid
Drop In Provisions.
CHICAGO. May 1. Although the wheat
market scored a sharp advance today, prices
later turned easy and closed at a net de
cline of 4 to 'rlc.
There were fresh reporta of crop nam
age In Kansas, but experts declared It could
quickly be forgotten If the present promise
elsewhere- waa maintained.
After an opening dip. due to lower cables
and favorable weather, whoat responded to
a liberal volume of buying. When prices
showed a gain of about lc over last night,
the early supporters displayed a wtllingnesa
to sell to frightened shorts.
Heavy recelpta at Omaha and Kansas Cits
weakened corn after an early bulge, due to
wet weather and forecaata of more rain to
night and tomorrow.
Bad reports from late seeded sections
made oats take a less bearish course 'than
corn, though tho effect of sympathy was
evident.
Provisions sulTored a rapid decline be
cause of selling by holders who had been
surprised at the large arrivals of hogs. 42.
IMH4 Instead of the 29.01X1 expected. Shorts
cocerlnvr steadied the market and left lard
and ribs j'hi to lnc above last night and
pork 224 to 27 4c altered In favor of the
consumer.
