A committee was appointed to as certain what had been done by the com mission appointed by Mayor Simon to select a site for the proposed $600,000 auditorium. Another committee was appointed to confer with the Library Commission to see if a library site In harmony with the Bennett Portland plans eould be found. A motion to continue the campaign against fake ad. vertlslng- was passed, also a dinner in honor of Hugh Chalmers, an auto mobile manufacturer, to be held at the Commercial Club on April IS. under the auspices of the various Portland Pro gressive Clubs, was discussed. Mr. Kubll. exalted ruler of the Portland Elks, eulogised the order. Mr. Moody urged every citizen to see that the city Is properly decorated during; the convention and that each visitor Is entertained so that he will go away de lighted with Portland. Fred D. Parr, manager of the E. J. Parr Steamship Company, said that Norman F. Titus would canvass the business houses of Portland in the in terest of shipping to Alaska, and that If 200 tons of freight were secured, the steamer St. Helens would sail May 25 for Alaska from Portland; also there would be two more sailings 35 days apart.
