pandemonium of sound yesterday af-t-rnoon
that signalized the opening of
t'ie 13th annual show of tha Portland
Kennel Club.
While the officers of the club hope
that the entry list will total 200 dogs.
Graduating the show from a three to
a four-point exhibition, indications are
that a fhowlng of slightly more than
"SO blue-ribbon seekers will result,
plarlng the show on a par with that of
last year aa to points, but presenting
sn entry list of at least 50 more dogs.

Weather had r.o effect on the ardor
of the dog fanciers or the throats of
the entrants, the snarl, bark and howl
of the Iiogvllle Inhabitants mingling
with tho "Isn't he too cute" of the fem
inine patrons and the "Some class to
:hat one of the masculine admirer.

Airedale terriers are numerically and
vcM-allr the leaders in the 111 show.
Thirty-eixht of these popular animals
monopolise the central portion of the
show quarters In the bssement of the
Iron building, completely eclipsing the
bull terriers, who are only 23 strong
this year. Among the best represent
ed breeds are: Collies. 11: Cocker span
iels. 11: Fnglish setters. 1: pointers, t;
T'ngllsn buldogs. 21; Boston bulldogs.

Judge Dr. Henry Jarrett. of Chestnut
Hill. Ia says that the class of dogs at
tiie show ranks high, while he has
many words of commendation for the
management. With never a hitch be
tween the Judging of the various
classes, the heaviest part of the work
promises to be over with by tonight,
'raving the lighter but more exacting
Judging for the final two days of the
show.
The Northwest Airedale Club will
meet at 9 o'clock this morning in the
i'og show quarters. The 1S12 futurity
tii awarded to Portland at the meet
ing last year, the local enthusiasts win
ning over Seattle.
Greatest Interest among the dog
owners is attached to the special
wards, which will not be made until
Saturday night.

avoid any possible misunderstanding
at the Olympic games, James E. Sulli
van, secretary of the American com
mittee, some time ago requested the
Swedish Olympic committee to forward
full particulars in relation to the rules,
weight-throwing contests (right and
left hand).
He ha Just received a letter from
the Swedish committee saying that In
thefe contests all the competitors will
make their eftorts with one hand and
then the other. The best efforts with
each hand will be added together to de
termine the competition.

cial.) Tenlno will have a baseball
team again this year. A committee
now Is engaged in soliciting funds to
pay a lease on a ball ground and to
purchase new uniforms for the team.
Practically all of last year's team will
return, and with several promising- re
cruits in prospect a strong; 1912 aggre
gation is predicted.

cial.) Aberdeen's announcement that
there would be no ball team In that
city this year has served as a bomb in
local baseball circles. In view of the
fact that the State League was an ap
parent certainty. Fans and directors
of Centralia and Chehalis are putting
their heads together to find some rem
edy for the situation.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 3. William
Humphrey, chairman of the Pacific
Coast trial committee for the Olympic
games, announced today that the Pen
tathlon trials would be held here May
19 and the Decathlon trials on May 25
2. As previously announced, the field
and track trials will be held May 18.

The two teams were tied through most
