THE MORNING OREGONIAN, tiittrrdAY. MARCn 7, 1012- 14 INTERESTS OF TAFT ADVANCED Oil $1.50 County Chairman Says Cash Not Needed Greatly to Carry on Campaign. DESIRE TO HELP SHOWN Koporls IlVccivrd by V. II. Ajer De clare f.'vrryhmljr Is Willing .to Aid and Colonel- Act De velops Taft Spirit. An active Taft campil:n on a fund f 11.50 is the record bins made by one of the counties of the state, ac cording to a letter received at the Taft hmdiuartors In the SolltnR building yesterday. And the chairman of the rounty committee, which Is making thin record, declares he will carry his county easily for I'reslde-nt Taft. Chairman Ayer. of the Taft commit ter said ho could not dlvulce the name of the writer of the letter or his county, because th letter was of a confiden tial nature, but he allowed the publi cation of the substance of the) letter, latere! la lateaae. "We do rot need to spend much nreney in boosting in this county." writes the chairman. "President Taft has a corner on things without our do ing any boosting. But we are carry ing on a lively campaign Just the same. Kverybody Is so Interested and so will ing and anxious to help that money Is one of the parts of the campaign for which have no particular use." Heports from the chairman of com mittees In many parts of the state in dicate that the Taft spirit has devel- nrx-d wonderfully since ex-l'resiucnt , . i . 1 1 i I . V. hunit- r v m 7t i ri i , i hi . iinu . ' ........ wagon for a. third time. Indications are that opposition toward Roosevelt Is gwicral on the "third-term" basis. Advices from outlying points show Koonevclt sentiment is less to be feard very day. Before he came out ac tively as a. candidate, he was regarded as a dangerous possibility. That fe-oi-1ns has passed away and been re placed by'one of confidence in the Taft ranks. Petitions Are Received. Taft petitions came In yesterday from distant portions of th stato and nil will be filed with the Secretary of State this week. Those circulating the petitions took occasion to send in their food wishes at the same time and every report wis encouraping. Some of these were as follows: L. J. Adams. tSilverton I wish Presi dent Taft success. His nomination will mean four years more of Republican Administration, -which signifies four years of continued prosperity to the peoplo of this Nation. J. H. Peare. La. Grande Please let tne know at any time wiiat we cati do and you will find us always ready to advance the cause. Joseph F. Fontaine, Jefferson I think the prospect is good in this Dreclnct. II. C. rorter. Aumsvine i nope ana believe we will elect Taft. reoa rtilniia Active. Meanwhile the organization of Taft committees continues throughout the states t'lubs and committee are be ing formed in the various towns, all having affiliations with their county rommittees. C. A. Hchlbrede. of Marsh field, chairman of the fooa County committee, reported the formation of additional local committee yesterday and he is still organizing others. Klamath County has a strong or ganization and the committee holds frequent meetings. Fastern Oregon is strongly for Taft. with the exception .f a few districts where opposition has Jong been expected. The 'Willamette Valley counties are making a fine showing with their organizations, and. In fact the past week has developed rtronc support all along the line, say the Taft campaign managers. The Itoosevclt announcement has added Finger to the state campaign. GEORGE SHEPHERD CANDIDATE Portland Man Seeks Nomination for RcprcM-ntative In Congress. George S.
