promote Alaskan legislation before

home Immediately, but to remain for
the conference tomorrow and tha next
day with those deleratrs who are In the

as to the moat urgent legislation.
Ha haa already had conferences with
Governor Clark and Delegate Wlcker-
sham. of Alaska, and with J. D. Low
man and C C. Tandelt. of Seattle, who
are members of this committee, and to
morrow will meet other delegates as
they arrive. He haa arranged that
Portland shall be recognised on the
committees.
Mr. Swanton la not offe:ng much
Inconvenience because of hit physical
disability, but will be compelled to
leave for Portland tha middle of the
week.
Mrs. Swanton received a telegram
from hrr husband last night saying
that he was operated upon Saturday
night in Washington, and was greatly
relieved. Tha dispatch added that he
bad found it unnecessary to return at
once to Portland, and would remain (or
the meeting of the Alaska committee.
