Duncan has establlesd a reputation as
a llplomat In the past few days while
acting aa mediator between warring
factions of Cnionville school, a district
lying nine miles east of McMlnnvllle,
on ths Salem road. The- controversy
between, the patrons of the school
grew out of a close application of a
state law.
Suspecting; tuberculosis In the 9-year-old
son of E. M. Coate, tha School
Board called for an examination of the
boy by County Health Officer J. II.
Cook, of this city. The father of the
boy protested against this, and upon
the examination being; made despite
his objections, he retaliated by endea
voring: to prevail upon the County
School Superintendent to order an ex
amination of the entire school, num
bering 40, the cost of which would
have been borne by the district. Such
a sweeping; order could not be Issued,
and as no Individual pupils have been
named as suspects, peace Is dawning;.
