cougar are fine specimens of the cat
tribe, the male measuring over seven
feat In length. while the female

both a short distance from his ranch
near Mlna. In the southwestern part of
this county.
KnapD began mlaatna; turkeys a few
days B(t nd 'ne other morning; saw a
cougar in his poultry yard. He slammed
the door quickly, but by the time he
got a gun the animal escaped. He got
out his dogs, hovreaer. and they treed
the male, which he killed with a .22
caliber rifle. A few. hours later the
female was up a tree snarling; at the
dogs and she was also quickly killed.
They are the first cougars that hare
been broug-ht Into Olympla for some

be the fact that there had been no milling

There was a good run of cattle at the
tockyarda yesterday and a fair npply of
other stock. The demand wa good and
trade waa active throughout the day.
The bulk of business was naturally In the
cattle division. Good Bteera old at $."!'
6.60. with the bulk of sales at $5.20. Feed
ers brought 14.73. A load of fancy cows,
weighed off the cars, sold at $4.73. Tho
general run of cow prices was $4 a 4.60, with
the bulk of sale at $4.40. Good calve went
at 17. and feeder at 15. In yesterday's
report It wa announced that cow old at
$5. It should hav read "heifera."
Hog were the strong feature of the mar
ket Three bunches of topper were sold
at $7.55. an advance of a nickel over the
previous top price.
No sheep were disposed of during the
day.
Recelpte yesterday were: 811 cattle. 17
calve. 434 hogs and 550 sheep.
