bas received a deed and abstract of
title to two blocks in Gallagher's Ad
dition to Florence, given to the oity
unconditionally by A. L Oallagher, of
Spokane. Wash, for park purpoaea.
Thla tract lies three-quarters of a mile
from the postofflce. Munsell Creek
flows through It, and ths shady, moss
covered banka make It an excellent
place for plcnloklng. The town al
ready owns Sunset Park, which was
donated by Oeorge Melvln Miller, of
Eugene, two yeara ago.
Bids for the Jetty oontraot here will
be opened soon and several Portland
contractors will prepare estimates.
Among those in the field are Robert
Wakefield, who held the contract for
work done laat year: the Paclflo Bridge
Company, and othera It la also re
ported that Porter Brother will bid
and that if they obtain the oontraot
they will build a railroad from the
quarry to the Jetty to transport the

FAMILY'S FATE MYSTERY
Salt Lake City Resident Start for
Oregon but Disappear.
AURORA. Or.. Sept. 17. (Special.)
The fate of the family of Joseph
Swanner. of Salt Lake City, Utah. Is
being investigated here by Fred Al
Ungton. of Murray, Utah, who arrived
here today. Swanner bought property
here more than a year ago, near Needy,
and returned to Utah for his family.
He never returned but no one here
knows why.
He left Utah Just a year ago with
his family, ut friends there received
no word from him after his arrival
at Emmett, Idaho, on his way hers.
Mr. Alllngton traced Swanner aa far
as Wardner, Idaho, where he heard
rumors of ths finding bf burned re
mains of a party whose description
answered that of the Swanner family.
This story could not be verified, and
Alllngton came here, where bs has
been unsuccessful In securing any evi
dence of the family's arrival in this
state. He now believes that the fam
ily perished In the fierce forest fires
a year ago last Summer In the Ward
ner, Idaho, district. Ho will return
to that section for further Investiga
