to hive abused. Sergeant Crate and
Patrolman Hurstow took the mules to
the police station and made the ar
rests. The defendants gave notice of
appeal.

Church of the Brethren (Dunkard of
North Alblaa, returned yesterday from
Myrtle Point, where the annual con
ference was held. Rev. Mr. Carl re
ports that the conference of Oregon.
Washington and Idaho Is divided Into
three conferences. Committees were
appointed, he said, for the Oregon Con
ference, to establish new work, the
nature of which Is not announced, but
It Is believed the general aim of the
conference Is to establish a denomina
tional school.

ing himself and the liquor habit which
brought about his misfortunes. Jesse
Merrill, rockptle prisoner, stood be
side the body of his dead wife at the
Coroner's office yestertfay by special
permission of Superintendent lirlggs.
The woman died Monday night at the
county poor farm. Just after Merrltt.
having broken Jail for the purpose of
visiting hla wife, was recaptured and
later allowed to see her. Merrltt has
two young sons working In the city.
Merrltt waa taken back to the rockplle
yesterday.

Mas. Isabeix French Craio Buried.
The funeral services of Mrs. Isabell
French Craig, who died July 18. at
her home, at Bl Mississippi avenue,
was held yesterdsy afternoon from the
chapel of the A. K. Zellar Company, at
f94 Williams avenue, and interment
was mada In Ixine Fir Cemetery. Mrs.
Craig Is survived by her husband.
Charles C. Craig, and was the mother
of Mrs. T. M. Allen. Arthur and Llixle
Craig, of Portland.
