One hundred military and civilian riflemen took part yesterday In the ftrt annual mld-ranfte competition of II Company. Third Oregon Infantry, at the state rifle ranse at Clackamas Hatlon. Spirited firing continued all day and the first trophy wa won with a remarkable cor of 1. straight bullseves. the euccessful competitor being; Sergeant O. T. Homainc. of Com pany If. f the nine silver cups and trophies effcred all were captured by marks men of the National Guard. Several civilian riflemen entered the contest, but fulled to make hi- scores. Tho firing was at E00 yards, with the con dition that each competitor continue firing until out of a bullscye. A num ber of excellent scores were made, not withstanding an overcast sky which gave poor light for range shootlnjf at that distance. Company II captured the second, third and fourth trophies, the second sward being taken by Corporal A. Plckard. with a score of eight suc cessive hits; Trivate B.
