That la the title to which Portland' husky renter fielder of the Paeiflo Coast league leaders, haa undisputed claim. Yesterday this player, who la justly an Idol of Portlands fana. registered nvo hits In as many times at bat. He haa done It before. While he Is breaking batting records in lamming out consecutive blnglea In frequent games. Ryan also haa the distinction of being the first Pacific Coast League player to corral the cen tury mark In baaehlte for the season. He celebrated his 100th hit In Thurs day's game against Vernon and yes terday brought the total of bta awata to lot by rapping out five blnglea. one of which was a three-bagger, in five trips to the plate. When the Beavers left for Cali fornia Sunday. Ryan had t base hits to his credit and he annexed two In the Drat game on Wedneeday and got two more Thursday, making It 100. Yesterday he made It IV. Yesterday waa the second time this seaaon Kyan has made five hits In five times up. and he also baa the dis tinction of making five hlta In another game, although In that contest he was at bat seven times. He is certain to go into major league ball. . In place of Harry Fanwell. who was turned back to Cleveland, Walter Mc Credle has been Informed by the Amer ican League club that Eugene Krapp will be returned to Portland In the event the other American League clubs waive on him. This information waa conveyed to the sporting editor of The Oregonian In a telegram from Los Angeles last night, and M-Crrdle says that If the other American and National League cluba waive on Krapp. they are fool ish, which indicates that the Portland leader thinks the little pitcher haa the goods. e e Montana Dan Sullivan had a chance to make his fortune Thursday night in Oakland but he quit In the fourth round of his scheduled six-round en counter with Frank Klaus. SIX PITCHERS SACRIFICED Final Score) of IS to 19 Gives Good Idea or What Kind of Exhibition It Was Visitors Are Ludl- crous In Krrors. . BY ROSCOE FAWCETT. Sometimes 1 laugh at Seattle. Victoria's a regular scream: But stop sll this kldciln' 'bout 13 to 12 For I guess the laugh's on my team. Conns Soliloquy. Playing like champions of the "Pun kin" Township League Spokane yes terday succumbed to the Portland Roadsters In a 10-lnnlng hammer fest that would have made a boiler factory look like' a Bible class. Our boys, who are noble athletes once more, drove three pitchers to the uncut, but Spo kane caught the infection and returned the favors. The score was 13 to 12 and the hits IT to IS In favor of the visitors and as for the bungling there was quarts and quarta of it on the Spokane end. Through the gray mists of the badly tangled dope we find that the game see-sawed back and forth several times. Spokane taking a 11 to 10 lead In the seventh; Portland tielng In the ninth when Bradley drove Mensor across; Spokane forging to the fron In the tenth on Kippert's double tally ing Tauscher. and Portland rallying in Its half of the fatal frame with force enough to shove over the Teon build ing. Five Hits Allowed. All told. Holm allowed five vigorous bingles In the tenth as the story of the cashing reveals: Jensen opened the Inning with a two bagger to right; Mundorff fouled out to right; Casey singled to left, scoring Jensen with the ttelng run; Speas scored his third single on an infield tap; Williams singled to left, rilling the bags with one out. Mensor then shot one over shortstop, shoving Casey In with the winning tally. Archer started on the mound for Portland and had allowed seven hits and three runs up to th sixth. Port land leading. T to 3. Archer's hoodoo then caught up with him nnd after four hits had been cracked off his de livery. Lamllne trotted out. The vis itors, however, amassed six tallies In the excitement and took the lead. Lam llne lasted another frame before Jen sen relieved him. Jensen pitched good ball to the finish. Portland painted the same kaleido scopic scenery on the Spokane bo score, driving Kraft from the mound In one Inning. Bonner started in a man ner that seemed to remind one of the old. old saying that: "Virtue is its own reward." but the reward came In a reversed form In the middle of the sixth when Ostdlek amputated him In favor of his one best bet, Victor Holm. Klppert "Demon Slugg"-" Kippert. Mensor and Speas were the demon sluggers of the fracas. Klppert practically winning for his teammates on two or three occasions. He slammed out three doubles and two singles In six excursions. Mensor was the stellar figure In Portland'a pinch epoch. Casey and Speaa scored four runs apiece, which Is trotting some. Pettlgrew and the new shortstop. Coultrln. who played In his first gams here, also sang in the pinch hitting quartet. Coultrln handing out a dandy two-bagger to right that scored Casey and Speas In the fifth. Mundorff was shunted from short to btovall's plact In right, but went back to short when Stovall batted for Coultrln In the ninth. Some of the. Spokane fielding stunts were ludicrous. Would that we could dig up something from the penciled de tails that might palliate the blunders the "champs' made yesterday. We don't know exactly what palliate means, but fall to find anything that looks aa though It might work for .that kind of material. For example: Krrors Are Ludicrous. In the first Inning Cooney pegged wildly to first on Casey's groundur and then when he neatly stopped a s'am by Speas and threw to Carty at second, the Fresno raisin king dropped the pill and Ca.ey landed safely again. Wil liams. Mensor and Pettlgrew then hit safely and not satisfied with three tal lies. Catcher Hasty let Frisk's throw get by him at the plate and a fourth rang the bell.
