PRACTICAL AID GIVEN
In the plans for filling Rose Festival
weelr with an array of attractions ex
celling all former celebrations, the
management la preparing to give rein
to alomus. th presiding deity of the
mask, and to Com us. the god of
revels, who are to soars honors In the
fealty of the loyal subjects, with Rex
Orea-onus the festival king. Arrange
ments are under way to give over the
latter part of the evening of Tuesday,
tn night of th great electrical Ilium
Inated float parade, to fun and frollo
In which maskers and gaily-costumed
revelers win bold sway In th streets.
Sixth and Seventh streets, which are to
D elaborately decorated and Illuminat
ed fur the week, will be dedicated to
these pastimes and certain sections of
the thoroughfare will be roped oft and
policed that th merry-makers may dis
port toemseuves to tha fullest extent.
At alternate street Intersections bands
111 be stationed and musical numbers
will Intersperse th frollo of th mask
ers and dancers.
The festival management Is endear
ortng to arouse Interest In this feature
of the programme among the numerous
secret and fraternal bodies In the city,
wmcn have suitable costumes and par
apnernalla for making a spectacular
snowing. Among those that, have al
ready algnlfled their Intention of plsv
Ing a part ar th Knights of the Rose.
The knights have a fin eiulpment for
mis and wiu probably appear decked
tn trappings of old feudal days. Other
societies are figuring en giving
'stunts' of a burlesque character, the
nature of which wlir not be announced
In advance. The locul Turn Vereln. In
charge of Processor 'Genserowskl. will
give "the Garland Drill" and numerous
otler gymnastic-feats.
Th subject has been taken DP with
some of the leading roller skating
rinas or tne city and It Is expected
that a large number of fancy perform
era on rollers will be on hand to take
part In freak races and comical "Jinks"
In the revels. This part of the even
ing's fun will not Interfere with the
big electrical pageant lad by Rex Ore
gon us. Introducing the Jolly old mnn
arch to the festival throngs, but will
rather serve to give the crowds an
early opportunity to catch the carnival
spirit which. It Is desired, shall prevail
during the week. The masking and
musical serenades will begin Just a
soon as the electrical parade has dls
banded and will continue until mid
night.
According to General Manager Hutch
la this will be the fitting time for the
women of Portland to appear In the
gay carnival garb which Is one of the
real attractive features of the floral
carnivals and tournaments In other
countries where such fetes are held.
