mmy the advance In stoeka which progressed
briskly In the closing days of laat week
waa halted while tha market awaited word
from Waahingtoa as to whether decisions
were to be announced by tha Supreme Court
In the anti-trust casea. When It became
known that the decisions were not to a
handed down today tna buying movement
was resumed and prices moved upward.
Trading grew more active toward tha and
of the day and at tha cloae a number of
substantial advances were distributed
through the list of active Issuea
. Stocks were in acant aupply seen at tha
higher lavela The buying movement ap
parently rested on the aams broad basis
of Improving sentiment In regard to tha
general outlook which waa noted laat week.
Trading continued to ba largely professional,
however.
Metal stacks were well supported and
their advance reflected tha more cheerful
sentiment tn regsrd to the outlook for both
the copper and steel market. The fortnight
ly report of European copper stocks showed
another decrease bringing up the tetal
shrinkage in April to nearly S.AO0.0GO poonda
The outlook for the steel trade la msde

railroads to re-enter the market.

ferred being especially weak at a maximum

Charged with taking; money for or
chard lands to which they had no ti
tle, the officers of the Columbia Or
chard Company were arrested by De
tectives Tlchenor and Howell, yesterday
afternoon, on complaint of Frederick
J. Godby. the alleged victim. Those
arrested are Helen M- Geren. J. H. Tip
ton and E. C Easton. A warrant is
also out for S. F. McClaln.
Godby alleges that he paid $100 down
on an agreed price of $1500 for a 10
acre tract In Columbia County, but la
ter he found that the other party to
the contract had no title of any kind
to the land. The defendants say that
they were negotiating; for an option
and would eventually be able to deliver
a deed to the property.
Tipton and Mra. Geren were arrested
In their office in the Spalding building,
where they conduct the J. H. Tipton
Company. Kastin, just out of bed after
an attack of pneumonia, was arrested
a little later at Fourth and - Stark
streets. All gave bonds In the sum of
$5000 and were released.
The woman defendant Is the owner
of the automobile In which Frisco Day
and Mable Monto went to their death
in Columbia Slough a year ago, and
she is now p Lain tiff In a suit against
E- Hollenbeck. a garage proprietor,
who, she alleges, allowed tha car to
go out of his place on Its fatal trip
without her consent. The case was re
cently tried before a Jury whiofa dis
