HERE I
TORY FOR YOU
HOOD RIVER has claimed for years that she grew better
Spitzenburgs and better Yellow Newtowns than grown any
place .else. This Hood River knew, and being sure, planted
90 per cent of the apple trees to Newtowns and Spitzenburgs. The
large commission men knew, because they came West qnd paid
more for Hood Rivers than they did for any other. The con
sumers knew because they were willing to pay more for a box of
Hood Rivers than for any others.
For- three years ami more other fruit sections
that told you they were as good as Hood River
have been coaxing us to prove it in competition.
Hood River has been told she was afraid and
could not deliver the goods. For three years
Hood River has (old these sections that there
was no need the people knew and that was
enough.
BUT This year the pressure was too hard, and
it was a case of Show Me."
SO Hood River entered one car of Spitzen
burgs and one car of Yellow Xewtowiis against
twenty-two cars from the .great Northwest at
the National Apple Show.
RESULT The Spitzenburg car won the $1000
sweepstakes prize oyer these twenty-two cars
and also won First on carload of Spitzenburgs'
class. The Newtown car won First on Best Car
load Yellow Newtown. The $500 cup given by
the Chicago Association of Commerce was also
won by Hood River as the best packed carload
of apples. The trophy attracted great 'attention
at the Chicago Alllc Show.
AGAIN The Spitzenburg car scored 997 in a
possible 1000; the Newtown car, 9SS jn a pos
sible 990. To further appreciate these wonder
ful scores, the Spitzenburg car of last year the
car winning over all scored 928 in a pos
sible 1000.
