Preparations are being made hers today
by the Salem Business Men's League to
provide for the accommodation of be
tween 300 and iOO delegates to the Ore
gon Ketall Merchants- Association,
which will open Its fifth annual con
vention tomorrow. The convention will
be In session three days.
Word has been received here that
members' from a far south as Ashland
and others as far east as Baker wilt
be In attendance.
While the prime object of the con
vention Is to bring- the different local
organisations of the state Into closer
business relationship and to discuss
wsys and means for the betterment of
general mercantile Industry, no effort
Is to be spared to show the visitors
a rood time while In Salem and to make
their visit one of pleasure as well as
profit.
Convention Starts Today.
The meeting will be called to order
st 10 o'clock tomorrow morning by
Theodore Roth, president of the Salem
Business Mens League and after tne
Invocation by President Fletcher Mo
man. of-Willamette 1'nlverslty. an ad
dress of web-ome will be delivered by
Mayor Louis Larhmund, on behalf of
the Cltv of Salem. Enoch Brayiora win
respond. Other addresses of welcome
In behalf of Salem's various organiza
tions will also be given.
Thursday morning the visitors will
he shown through the Penitentiary, the
Insane Asylum and the fhemawa Train
ing f-hool. The Legislature will also
be paid a visit by the delegates.
A smoker and general social meeting
will be held In the rooms of the 1111
hee Club Wednesday evening.
The big social event of the conven
tion will be held at the Marion Hotel
Thursday evening, when a banquet will
be given. Governor West. Ben Selling,
president of the Senate, and John P.
Husk speaker of the House, have been
Invited to spesk.
The different hotel managements have
assured the committee on arrange
ments that they will be able to take
care of several hundred people In ad
dition to the regular rush occasioned by
the session of the Legislature.
