Negotiations have been closed for
th purchase of the gasoline schooner
Anvil, now at Seattle, which will be
placed on the Tillamook run. She was
sold by San Francisco Interests.
While maneuvering with a barge In
tow yesterday, near th Shaver dock,
th steamer auna broke one of th
circle Irona on her wheel and was out
of commission for a short time.

man and that you must settle a bill of
1100 or more for repairs, are all that

Frlck was arrested by Patrolman 81ms
after a chase through the congestion of
traffic of Washington street. Frlck
had a high-powered car. which, he said,
was running away with him. Going at a
speed of 3a miles an hour, he ran Into a
streetcar and rebounded Into a brew-fry
wugon. seriously damaging his car. He
did not explain why he had not shut off
his power. Frlck was fined S0.
Rlngsred. who waa fined last Septem
ber' for speeding, said tie was taking a
party of girls to high school, and was

well. "and while I shall endeavor to

eary to check the practice of driving au-

WAITER TESTIFIES WEBB HAD

Former Trial.
Jesse P. Webb had William A. John
son's roll of greenbacks early on the
evening- of June 20, according to the
testimony of Fred J. Klrschner,
waiter at the Quelle restaurant, who
testified for the state at the trial of
Mrs. Carrie Kersh yesterday morning.
Klrschner said Webb. Mrs. Kersh and
the little boy entered the restaurant
about o'clock the night following
the crime. They ordered codfish and
cream, said Klrschner. and he left to
attend to the wants of another party.
Webb complained, he said, because he
did not bring three glasses of water
soon enough, and flashing the bills,
said. "We're not farmers. Don't you
think these will pay for three glasses
of waterT"
The waiter said also that 'Webb
called attention to a wound on his
hand, and when Klrschner asked him
how he did It, said the trunk fell on
It. Klrschner said Webb wss pouring
hydrogen peroxide on the sore.
i. C. Campbell, of Spokane, said
that Mrs. Kersh, whom he knew as Mrs.
Webb, rented a house from him at 31
South Wall street. Webb paid tS on
the rent, he said, and Mrs. Kersh aa
anred him that he need not be alarmed
about the rest of the rent money, that
Webb was both a linotype operator and
a kalsumtner. and would pay the bllL
But Campbell said It was never paid.
Klrschner's testimony coincides with
Irene Trumbull's testimony In th
Webb trial to the effect that Webj
told her he had made some money for
his sweetheart that day.

Barge's Cargo Swells.
Captain "Dell" Shaver, of the Shaver
Transportation Company, yesterday de
livered to the Willamette Fuel Company
a barge of flr wood, which was scat
tered in Willamette Slough last week
when the steamer M. F. Henderson lost
a barge that sank after striking the
breakwater. The count made yesterday
showed that 410 cords were on the barge,
which was originally loaded with 400
cords', and Captain Shaver attributes the
Increase to pwelllng.
