Jersey cuw was becoming- very popular
among dairymen on account of her
freedom from tuberculosis. Dr. 8. W.
McClure. head of the Unl'ed States
Itureau of Animal Industry, said at the
State Fair that in a short time 250
herds of registered Jerseys would be
owned In Oregon.
The object of the club Is to promote
the breeding of high-class Jerseys and
for mutual help among the breeders of
Jerseys.

SALEM. Or.. Sept. 3. (Special.) John
H. Gibson, of Portland, has filed a com
plaint with Uie tate Railroad Commis
sion, stating that the Portland Railways
Light Power Company's cars at the
county road crossing, near Stanley's Sta
tion, on the Kstarada line, delay traf
fic on the county road and frequently
cause the blocking of the thoroughfare.
One of Gibson's principal objections Is
the short length of the siding. The
Kailrnad Commission has notified Glb
n that the question probably comes un
der the Jurisdiction of the County Court,
but the commission will do what It can

Vancouver Has Money In Treasury,
Making Lower Tax Possible.
VANCOUVER. Wash.. Sept. 20. (Spe
cial.) That 50,S00 will be required to pay
Vancouver's municipal expenses for 1911
was estimated by the Council tonight. As
funds were left over last year, less than
W000 will be raised by direct taxation.
The levy will be about 2 mills. No levy
will be made in Greater Vancouver. Last
year the levy was 12 mills.
