Brsdstreet's bank clearings report for
the week ending September 1 shows that
Portland stands In second pi are of all
the cities In the country In the per
centage of Increase In its bank clearings.
The amount of the clearings is P. 51 7.0X1
and the Increase 4&7 per cent.. Oakland
leads the list sent In Its Increase
with 187.7 per cent, snd Its total is

Helena. Moil, stands nest to Portland
In the Increase, which Is 44.4 per cent,
but the clearings amount only to $994,000.
Seattle shows a woeful decrease for the
week. -J per cent, with a total of ts,-

per cent, and San Francisco the heaviest
decrease on the Coaat, 141 per cent.
