WOMAN RECOVERS RAPIDLY
lirorced Wife, Shot by Bolen, to Be
Oat In Few pays.
Rapid recovery is being; made by the
divorced wife of S. T. Bolen, Edna
Adams, who was shot by Bolen in the
Portland Hotel grill Thursday night,
just before the man turned the re
volver upon himself and took his own
life.
The wounded woman is at Good Sa
maritan Hospital, and unless unfore
seen complications set in will be dis
charged in a few days.
There wilf be no inquest Jn the case
of Bolen, the Coroner holding: that the
cause of death is without dispute.

POSTAL RECEIPTS GROW
Portland Gains 17.27 Per Cciit;
Seattle Figure Is Much Less.
Regarded as reflecting a true com
parison of the business activity of the
two cities, Portland postal receipts
were being compared yesterday with
those of Seattle. Portland made an
average gain of 17.27 per cent in the
first six months of 1910, as compared
with the same period last year, and

Seattle only 9.71 per cent for the first
five months.
Portland's postal receipts have made
a steady march forward, while the
figures . from the Sound City range
from an increase of 25.46 per cent in
March to .37 per cent in May. The
June figures for Seattle are not available.
Deer Plentiful; Law Violated.
KLAMATH FALLS, Or., July 1 (Spe
cial.) Reports come from persons
camping In the woods on the west side
of the Upper Klamath Lake that deer
are more plentiful this season than
for several years. Reports also come
of the disregard of the game laws, and
the Deputy Game Wardens have been
busy trying to run down some of thos
who are suspected ef killing the deer
out of season. The buck deer season
does not open here until August 10.
Oats Over Six Feet High.
CHEMAWA, Or., July 1. (Special.)
The Chemawa Indian School has a stand
of 14 acres of white Spring side oats that
measures an average of 6 feet 6 Inches
in height. One frtock. taken at random,
has 31 stools'. The berries are heavy
and well filled, one stem having 217 kernels).
