stead In San Juan County by a decision
of the State Supreme Court today In a

Milton Power Plant Reopens.
MILTON, Or., Dec. 6. The MUton
light and power plant Is again In work
ing order, after being closed for two
months for the purpose of installing new
machinery and erecting a steel standplpe.
The plant is now well equipped. It la
estimated that the revenue from the
plant, as It now stands, will pay off all
city Indebtedness In a short time.

College to Honor Birth of Founder
of Institution.
WALLA "VVA1.LA, Wash.. Dee. 6. (Spe
cial.) Arrangements are being made for
a big celebration at Whitman College on
February 16. the date of the 60th anni
versary of the institution and the 100th
anniversary of the birth of Cushing Eells,
founder of the college, who was born and
died on the same date.
This event Is to be made " one of the
biggest of the year at Whitman, and will
occur about tha time the new Conserva
tory of Music building Is ready for occu
pancy. Elaborate preparations are un
der way. 1
Engine Explodes; Two Killed.
AMARILLO, Tex.. Dee, 6. A Santa Fe
engine hauling a fast . freight train ex
ploded under full speed at Berloch.
Okla.. yesterday, killing Engineer Ellis
and Fireman Saunders, both of Amarillo.
The body of the engineer was blown 300
feet away and that of the fireman was
found 75 feet from the track.
According to an English court a tBt for

cannot do this.
BOY SHOT AT TURKEY SHOOT
Youth, Setting Traps, Raises Head
and Is Wounded.
VANCOUVER, Wash., Dec. 6. (Spe
cial.) At a turkey shoot held at Amboy,
SO miles northeast of Vancouver yester
day. Harry Hooper's scalp and hat were
filled with fine bird shot. The men were
firing at clay pigeons, those making the
best scores to get the turkeys.
Hooper was setting the traps." He raised
his head' above the embankment just as
a gunner fired a shot.
Hooper was thought at first to be
killed, but he soon regained conscious
ness. His wounds, though painful, are
not fatal.
Deranged Woman Cared For.
GLENDALE. Or., Dec. 6. (Special.)
An elderly woman whose mind Is ap
parently deranged was found wandering
along the railroad track near here this
morning. When questioned, she said her
name was Helen Slater, and her home
was Troy. N. V.. and that she was on
the way to her sister's home in Cincin
nati. O. She could not tell how she came
to this place. When found she was just
leaving town in a blinding snow storm.
The county authorities purchased a ticket
for her to- Roseburg, - and eent her there

Bellefontalne Woman, Burned, Is
"Given Until Tonight to Live."
BELLEFONTA1NE, Or., Dec. 6. "r
will give you until tonight to live." is
the warning in an anonymous letter re
ceived today by Mrs. George Mann. She
is prostrated with fear.
A few evenings ago Mrs. Mann was
called to the door, when a veiled woman
threw acid in her face, saying:
"I will bum your eyes out." Mr.
Mann face was burned seriously.
