sion on Killingsworth avenue, beginning
at Union avenue headed by the band,
and followed by school children, fraternal
orders, floats and citizens, which will
proceed to the &nith building. Here there
will be an address and reading of the
Declaration of Independence, patriotic
muFlc, naming and dedicating the park.

not been made. The Park Board will be
asked to furnish a suitable name. Mem
bers of the Park Commission will be

Decides on Building Stth. At the
meeting of the general committee of the
Sellwood Commercial Club, Wednesday
night at the office of the Sillwood Bank,
the offer of J. E. Rlnkie to sell his lot
on Taeoma avenue, near East Thirteenth
street, for $1Xi0 was accepted. This action
was taken on the recommendation of the
subcommittee on building site, it being
$-; lower In cost to any other lot offered.
The. constitution and bylaws ' were read
and adopted. The objects set forth are
"to promote the material and social wel
fare of the suburb of Sellwood." It was
decided to fix the capital stock at $2500,
and to erect a building at once that will
cost about $1600. It will contain billiard,
pool, reception and reading rooms, all
these rooms to be so arranged that they
can be thrown Into one large meeting hall
for public purposes. The committee on
Incorporation waa given until tomorrow
night to report. About $1600 has beeneub-
. scribed and by tomorrow night It is
thought that the whole amount required
will be pledged, when the club will be
Incorporated, officers elected and steps
taken to erect the clubhouse. It Is ex
pected to have a public opening of the
building about October L
Maintains Closb Inspections Rapid
progress Is being made on the Sellwood
sewer system, and close Inspection of the
work Is maintained by the Sellwood Board
of Trade. One member of the special
! committee, armed with the specifications
smd maps of the eewer every day Inspects
the work and co-operates with the local
Inspector. A portion of the concrete
sewer conduit has been built, the first of
the sort In Portland. It is made of re
inforced concrete without stone blocks
or brick. A steam ditch digger Is now
being used which cuts the trenches rapid
ly. The main sewers are being laid in
the center of the streets and sewer con
nections are being made for all lots. The
contractor expects to have the contract
completed by November, and has until
December 1. The cost will be something
above JS0.000.
St. Mart s School Oiosinq. The
closing exercises of St. Mary's school,
on Stanton street and Williams avenue,
will he held tonight. A musical pro
gramme will be rendered. There will be
presentation of diplomas and premiums,

at Sunnyside, and often a message costs
more for delivery than the actual
charges. The club will undertake to have
the free delivery territory extended to
take in Sunnyside. A specialty will be
made of the park question, as the people
of Sunnyside are becoming anxious to
have some definite action taken toward

stone of the new edifice for 9t. Francis
Church. East Pine, between East Eleventh
and East Twelfth streets, will be laid
Sunday. July 4. The foundation and base
ment walls will be finished this week.
Nearly a half block is occupied. The
basement indicates something of the size
of the church. The dedicatory ceremonies
will make an Imposing affair, and many
of the prominent Catholic clergymen of
the city will take part. Rev. Father
Black, the pastor, says he expects that
work will go forward on the building until

Three hours of desultory cross-examination
and excited explanations were con
sumed in the trial of Lee Doy, charged
with assaulting Lee Don, young social
Hons of Chinatown, who engaged in a
fisticuff Tuesday night following a discus
sion of relative rights to the hand of
Miss May Fong Won. famed Oriental
belle, in the Municipal Court yesterday
morning, which ended in the defendant
being fined $5 and cost. The evidence
which convicted Doy. was the appearance
of his rival in court with a pair of black
ened eyes.
Two Warrants for Grocer. That
"misfortunes never come as single spies,
but in battalions," was proven in the
cae of H. 9. Reynolds, a grocer at 834
Alberta street, yesterday when two war
rants for his arrest on assault and bat
tery charges were Issued from the Dis
trict Attorney's office. His' wife and a
stepdaughter. Miss Clara Delaney, are
the complalntants. Mrs. Reynolds says I
her husband assaulted her yesterday and
the daughter made complaint of an at
tack which she alleges to have occurred
February 1, of this year.
Mat But School, Block. Capitalists
are negotiating for the purchase of the
Williams-avenue school block and may be
successful. This block is considered the
most valuable property in Upper Albina
for business purposes. It is incumbered
with the old schoolhouse, which will have
to be torn down. The Board of Educa
tion refused an offer of $60,000 for the
block' some time ago. There is talk that
the old building may be retained next
year for the Albina High School, even if
sold, as the building in North Albina
will not be completed.
Barber Charged With Embezzlement.
John A. Stern, a barber 28 years old,
was arrested yesterday morning and
placed in the City Jail In default of
bond, charged with embezzling funds of
his employer, Eugene Fryou. for whom
he worked at Twenty-third and Sherman
streets. Stern, it is also said, will be
charged with embezzling money belong
ing to a laundry for which he acted as
agent.
Burglar suspect Released. Believed
to be a burglar and suspected of having
been implicated in various minor larceny
cases in Portland during the past few
weeks, a man who gave the name of Wil
liam Lawrence was arrested by Sergeant
Riley Wednesday night, and was released
by Judge Van Zante In the Municipal
Court yesterday morning because of in
sufficient evidence.
Warrants for 26 Autoists. Assistant
City Attorney Suljlvan yesterday after
noon filed with the police warrants for
the arrest of 26 autoists for alleged viola
tion of speed regulations. It is under
stood that this is only the beginning of
tho police campaign against the speed
mania, which It is claimed is daily en
dangering the lives of pedestrians.

tonight at 8 o'clock. Music by the choir,
under the direction of Gustavus Efeeman.

thur J. Glason. son of Mrs. Rose Glason
Osburn, formerly of Portland, died here
yesterday. 'I he deceased was 28 years
old. He was educated in the public
schools of Portland. He served in the
engineering corps of the battleship Ore
gon on her last cruise to the Orient. In
the last year of his service he contracted
pulmonary tuoerculosis. which ended in
his death.
