WEATHER CONDITIONS.
Thoug;h the pressure has fallen somewhat
r.etveen the Cascades and the Coast, the
pressure Is relatively high In the North
west and generally clear weather la reported
throughout the district, though there has
been a light sprinkle In eastern Washington
duilnpr the day. and ejso In central and
northern Montana, -with rain falling at time
or observation at Helena. Brisk northwest
winds are reported from the Coast and also
from some interior points. The tempera
tures are somewhat above the normal in
western Washington and western Oregon,
but over the drainage area of the Columbia
and the Snake they are considerably below
the normal generally.
The indications are for fair weather In
this district Monday, probably with some
what higher temperatures in eastern Wash
ington, eastern Oregon and northern Idaho.
THE RIVER.
The liver at Portland will probably reach
a stage of 111. 5 feet on Monday and 20 feet
on Tuesday.

Portland and vicinity Fair, westerly
winds.
Oregon, Washington and Idaho Fair;
warmer in eastern Washington, eastern Ore
Son and northern Idaho; westerly winds.

are now being used in Syria for the manu
facture of aoap. corn oil would make an
acceptable substitute for olive oil in soap
making but for the fact that It falls to
