Mutual Insurance Society
Passes
Resolutions at Sleeting.
SALEM. Or.. June 4. (Special.) The
Oregon Society ot Mutual Insurance,
which closed Its annual meeting In this
rlty tonight, passed a resolution to the
effect that every member of the society
should use his best efforts to procure the
enactment of a law creating the office
of fire marshal. The convention also de
termined to offer an adequate reward for
the arrest and conviction of any per
son for the crime of arson.
Over 30 delegates were in attendance.
A banquet was tendered the visitors by
the Horticultural Fire Relief Associa
tion, whose home offices are In this city.
The following officers were elected: V".
C. Hagerty, president; C. H. Merrick,
vice-president; ' B. I Berry, secretary;
I M. Gilbert, treasurer: D. C. Burns,
John Pemberton and A. B. Rlppey, trus
tees. Among the speakers was S. A. Kozer,
State Insurance Commissioner, who dis
cussed "The Relations Between the In
surance Department and the Mutual Com
