CHILL1COTHE, O.. April 28. In a
local option election characterized by
disorderly scenes, at-times bordering
on rioting1, Ross County voted "wet"
today by 2000. The city of Chlllicotho
Kave a "wet" majority of 1800.
To restore order. Company H of the
Fourth Regiment, Ohio National Guard,
was called out and a large force of
special Deputy Sheriffs was sworn in.
These, carrying wagon spokes instead
of rifles, stood guard in the disturbed
quarter until the polls closed.
Women patrolled in front of each
polling place and an army of detec
tives was at work for the "dry's" to
prevent any fraud, while every police
man in the city in citizens' clothes
worked for the "wets." Women with
cameras patrolled front and rear doors
of saloons.
Rev. c. W. Eldrldge, superintendent
of the Cincinnati division of the Anti
Saloon League, who recently was egged
by "wets'" while he was speaking at
Adelphl. was arrested this morning
charged with violating the 100-feet
limit law at a polling place and was
placed in Jail.
The police also arrested several "dry"
workers on the same charge. A num
ber of "wet" workers were arrested on
charges of attempted bribery.
When J. D. Whilegott. secretary of
the local option committee, called at
the city jail to see Rev. Mr. Eldrldge. it
is claimed by the "drys" that he was
assaulted by Chief of Police Pender
gast. He was later released on bond.
Rev. George L. Pake, of Portsmouth,
Ohio, who was assaulted by a "wet"
last night in the street, was injured
worse than lie was at first thought to
be. His left temple bone was laid
bare by a blow with steel knuckles.

additional details of his story today.
"Did Rosenfeld ever ask you what

"And they pressed you for moniyr'
"Yes. Rosenfeld said he was so hard
pressed he had often thought of the

told both of them that I was in so
deep that I never expected to get out

for a while. I thought possibly some
piece of good luck might come my

Anthracite Differences Settled for

posed agreement that officers of the
anthracite Miners' Union presented to
the hard coal operators was laid be
fore the delegates today, and the prin
cipal section, the renewal, of the old
agreement, was adopted unanimously.
The entire agreement presented to
the miners' convention was adopted
without change and the convention adjourned.
