Only a Few Clips of Wool Sold to Date. Confidence In Market. LAKITVUIW, Or.. April 21. Few wool ales have been made In this county this Bpring. Sheepmen as a rule are awaiting higher prices, which they feel confident will come with the advance of the season. Recently a few small clips were contracted at 18 oents, but the woolgrowers of this county generally are in good financial con dition and disposed to hold for the top price.. The flock. Wintered exceptionally well. The loss from bad weather was very small. The feed on the range was. good through out the entire season, and consequently the clip will be fully up to the average and of first-class .quality. The heaviest loss sustained by sheepmen was from coyote.. On the desert, where the sheep range through the Winter, these animal, hsve been increasing in numbers In recent years until the sheepmen have been forced to adopt means to exterminate them. WHEAT HOLDERS ASK FCXL PRICES lcal Market Not Affected by Chaoses in the ISast, The local wheat market moves along with out being affected one way or another by price changes In the East. Holders appear to be getting firmer in their views from day to day and prices much higher than these now current are predicted for later In the season. There was very little business done yesterday, as the demand was light and hardly any grain waa offered. There was some inquiry tor club around S1.20. but sellers- prices were higher. A sale of blue stem at 11.88 for MayIune delivery was reported. Barley wee firm at the reoent advanoe with the demand, tf anything, stronger. Oats were about steady. The movement in the local flour market is euite good, considering the high prtoes. One element of strength. In the flour market is the fact that a majority of the small millers are now eliminated from the trade and a comparatively email quantity of flour Is therefore being offered. DEALINGS SOON FALL OFF Alternating Declines and Advances In Prices Rumors Regarding Harrjman's Health Cause Sell ing Gold Goes to Holland. .iBT.IOKK- ApH1 1 Extreme confu sion of the speculative temper was caused by the action of stocks during the earlier part of today, and the result was a de clining tendency In the dealings and the adoption of a waiting attitude to see what the mysterious movement might portend suspicion of manipulative purposes in some or tlve most obvious movements increased the feeling of doubt and uncertainty. Alternating declines and - advances kept the market in such a wavering state as is rarely witnessed. Some of the early sell ing of stocks was reported as coming openly from sourses credited with leading; the ad vancing movement. The suspicious trading element saw In this selling a bull device to take the market away from the bears and force "tho latter to sell short at low fig ures. " The bears. Instead of taking courage at the appearance of long stock, therefore took alarm and bought to cover their short con tracts. At the periods when prices were advancing there was an equally suspicious scrutiny of the selling and signs that long stock was coming out would be followed by quick reactions. ..,n.nKOUn.emen of p,an" ,or Summer t!Sw Y B H' Ha"-'an and modified restrictions on the Erie bond Issue .by the New York Public Service Commission were unexpected developments. The rumors re garding Mr. Harrtman's health caused some selling of shares in the companies with which he Is most closely associated. The effect on Union Pacific was pronounced, and the weakness of New Tork Central also was traceable to the large expectations that have been formed of the effects to be looked tot from Mr. Harrlman's future activities in the management of that railroad. Relaxed requirements to be compiled with ty the Erie to secure permission for the proposed bond issue were considered suffi cient to insure the success of the proposed financial plan. The Erie stocks responded and there was some sympathetic effect In other parts of the list. A special source of speculative confusion waa the emtio fluctuations in Reading. There was considerable comment on the taking of gold here for shipment to Hoi land, a very unusual proceeding. It was inferred from this gold movement that Dutch Investors In American securities, at tracted by the high level of prices here, had been sending home their holdings to market. The Incident made a Redded im pression on speculative sentiment, because of the substantial character attributed to the Dutch financial Insight. A decline in the sterling rate at Paris was the principal change for gold exports from New Tork. but the sterling exchange rat. here mad. a compensatory decline. Weather conditions here were more fa vorable on grain crop prospects and anx iety was less acute over the fate of the winter wheat crop. Bonds were Irregular. Total sales, par values. $7,712,000.
