. Last night the Multnomah Athletic
Club held its first aquatlo meet in the
big swimming pool. This branch of sport
is in cnarge or n. Hilton, the club"s new
swimming instructor. SA aood-slzed
crowd was present and some good swim
ming was seen. The aquatic programme
consisted of races at various distances,
and for which medals were hung tip for
tne winners Dy the club.
The first event on the programme was
the 50-yard swim by the senior class.
This event was a riot struggle between
Sharp and Dent, the former winning by
a narrow margin of a few Inches. This
event among the Junors was won by
Hinckle in 35 seconds, Ave seconds slower
than the time -made by Sharp in the
senior event.
' The feature of the evening was the
victory of little Alfred Krohn. son of
Robert Krohn, who won the 60-foot dash
in 10 seconds flat. Young Fabre was the
victor in the junior event for 100 yards,
while Dent won the senior century from
Wakeman in the fast time of 1:12. The
50-yard swim for the intermediate class
was won cleverly by Noyes, who made
the distance In 31 seconds. Noyes also
won thes 220-yard senior event, while the
longer distance for Juniors was won by
Reid. Leon Fabre also won - the fancy
dtving event, and in this contest he dis
played considerable ability as a swim
mer. The everts were conducted under
the personal observation of Mr. Hilton,
while Robert 'Krohn and Eddie O'Connell
acted as officials.

Troutman, of Tucson, Ariz., arrived
here today and entered the probate court
room just in the nick of time to prevent
the probation of-the will of -his mother,
the late Mrs. . Anna D. Troutman, who
died here last week. The document was
belng'presented by Mrs. Lilly Balke. wife
of Rudolph Balke, a -brewer, who is a
daughter of the defendant. Her hand
was upraised to take the oath when
George Troutman rushed into the court
room and dramatically announced:
"I am here to protest."
Probate Judge Leuders immediately

last niht the report that the club has
abandoned the idea to give Richard Crok
er a farewell dinner before his departure
for Ireland, next week.- It had been re
ported on several occasions that Mr. Crok
er would be present at a "harmony din
ner: at which It was hoped that some of
the warring factions in Tammany might
be brought together. But it is now rjrob
able that, an informal reception for the
old leader will be, the only testimonial

LOS ANGELES, Cal., April 20 Van
E. Griffith, a young aviator, was
hurled to the ground yesterday and
narrowly escaped serious Injury, when
his aeroplane Glider, drawn by an au
tomobile, was tilted by an unexpected
gust of wind and smashed against the
street curbing. Griffith has made sev
eral successful flights with the Glider
in tow of an automobile, and easily at
tained a height of from 25 to 30 feet.
He was up about ten feet yesterday
