DftLGITY IN TOILS
Ex-Secretary of Grand Court
of Foresters Arrested.
EMBEZZLEMENT IS CHARGE
Said to He SI 27 4.87 Short in His
Accounts Ho-ause of Hih Living.
)lakcs refciise Money Was
Spent on Expense Account.
, Andrew R. Parity, former socretary of
the Orefron Urand Court of Foresters.
wa rrestPd late yesterday afternoon,
on charaes of misappropriating money
r.eloiitinB to tlie order. While lie is
charged specifically with taking- $63.40.
hi shortage is said to total $1274.87. Dal
slty Tias taken at once to the County
Jail, tteiug unable to furnish a cash bond
of J2V0.
Palglty insists that the money he is
acrused of having emhexaled In reality
aB spent in his expense account. He
ill be has taken nothing unlawfully.
This is denied by F. R. Peterson, chair
man of the board of trustees of the
Orand Court of Oregon, who. in his offi
cial capacity, filed the complaint against
Ealsity. Mr. Peterson says investiga
tion by the trustees has made it plain
the money was feloniously taken from
funds Intrusted to Dalgity's care as sec-
rotary.
Extravagant living is said to be the
cause of Oalgitys predicament and this
accusation is given color by the fact that
he was sued for rent due for the occu
pancy of a house at .East Thirty-fifth
and East Washington streets. Dalgity's
alleged shortage was- discovered January
when he was formally removed by
the trustees and given time In which to
square the account. In the two months
intervening no part of the shortage has
been made up. it is alleged, and the Na
tional Surety Company, which was on
ralgity's bond, is represented as having
Insisted on trte accused man's arrest. He
will be arraigned today in the Justice
Court.
Dalgity was secretary of the Oregon
Court for 19 months. He came here to
accept that position from Astoria. He
was formerly a Deputy County Clerk of
Clatsop County and also bears the title
of Past Grand Chief Ranger in the Foresters.-
He has a wife and three chil
dren. He was arrested white attending a vau
deville performance at Pantages TUeater.
and a Deputy Constable Insisted that he
leave the house before the clospp of the
performance. Dalglty did not seem
greatly surprised at his arrest. He pro
fessed to believe the difficulty -would
come to nothing when presented in court.

sell such stock as they have on hand.
This was the attitude In which the
dealers appeared before Justice of the
Peace Olson yesterday afternoon, to an
swer to charges of violating the state
game law by selling heron feathers.
The officers of the Oregon Audubon So
ciety, who brought about the arrests,
were agreeably surprised to learn that
no fight would be made in the courts on
the law. Lawyers representing the vari
ous dealers signified an Intention of
pleading guilty when trial comes. A con
tinuance was granted until April 13,
when, it is understood, formal pleas of
guilty will be entered and nominal fines
levied. If any one of the dealers expects
to fight the law, that intention was i
made known yesterday, when it
unanimously agreed to sell no m-feathers.
