9 Convicted One Takes
Judgment Stolidly.
Harry Daley, convicted of the murder
of Harry Kenny, was yesterday sen
tenced by Judge Gantenbein to be
hanged on Friday. January 29. at the
State Penitentiary at Salem. John H.
Stevenson, attorney for Daley, imme
diately after sentence was pronounced,
asked the court for the length of time
in which to file a motion for a new
trial. This motion will probably be
tiled today. Daley did not betray the
slightest emotion throughout the pro
ceedings. He stood perfectly still, in
tently watching the court. At the con
clusion of the sentence he walked
steadily out of the courtroom with the
Sheriff!
The crime of which Daley was con
victed was the murder of Harry Kenny,
a saloonkeeper, November 16. The trou
ble arose over Kenny's refusal to re
employ Daley as bartender or to ad
vance a certain sum of money which
Daley claimed was due him. The mur
dered man was well known here, hav
ing resided In Portland for more than 30
years.
