Slump In Coarse Grains Also Tends

CHICAGO, Dec. IT. Wet weather In the
Winter belt of tne United States Inspired
general selling tn the wfceat market today,
resulting in net- declines at the close of
to o. Corn and oats also closed weak.
Sentiment m the wheat pit was bearish al.
day, ' although at tlmeo flrmneiss was dis
played on covering by shorts. There wa a
little show of strength early In the day as a
result of buying brought out by tbe Illinois
crop report, which estimated the acreage
own to Winter wneat at IB per cent lese
than the estimate made by Government, ex
pert. Later some bullish enthusiasm was
aroused by talk in connection with the Ar-gentlne-Braall
embrogllo and also by the
Venesuelan situation, but these factor were
offset by the favorable weather for the Fall-
sown crop in this country. The vveatner
Bureau map showed rain or snow through
out a large section of tne country eeav w
the Rocky Mountains and further precipita
tion wae forecasted for tonight and tomor
row. A slump in coarse grain also tenaeu
to weaken price during the last half of the
session. The market closed weak at almost
tae bottom of the day, with May at $1.06
1.06 and July at 979ig7TsC.
The corn market was weak, despite wet
weather throughout the entire corn belt. The
Illinois report, which estimated this year's
crop of corn at' 218,000.000 bushels, as com
pared with 285,000.000 as shown by the Gov
