his bowing, breadth In technique and a
depth to tone tiiat stamps b-.m as a
talented player of the king of Instru
ments. The Corelll-Leonard "La Folia" Is a
most curious study of light and shade,
with. An unlooked for timsb. Saint Saens'
"I.e 1'ygne" and Bohm's "Caprlcclo" got
delicate renderings with muted strings,
while the other supporting numbers wvre
v riina's "Fonodal'' and Fiorillo's "In
Memorlam." These were kindly received.
Jlr. iichenlaub's encore being a musi
cal readinc of the paraphrase ".Eve

rlolin selection was St- Lublnfl grand

Xoniaettl'a "Luc a." and in response- to
an encore Mr. Eichenlaub skillfully play
ed the O-strlng aria by Bach.
Mrs. Reed sang three numbers In soft
effect. Ponehelli's "Blind Girl s Song."
Plerne's "Serenade" and Sans Soucl'g
"Thoughts." Each received a fine, sym
pathetic rendition, and for an Insistent
encore Mrs. Reed sang "Love Is a Rose,"
also by Sans Souci.
Mr. fstreet s baritone voice was beard
to excellent advantage. I remember him
four years ago aa a "kid" baritone. Just
coming out as a soloist, and he has
worked so diligently In the Interval that
It is now worth the Journey to hear hmj
sing so artistically. His tone Is opes
and sonorous, he sings from memory, and
he has mastered the blending of his
registers so well, that there is no percep
tible break. His voice also sounds well
and is eminently suited for dramatic
work. Mr. Street sang a number from
Thomas' "Mlgnon," and Tour's "Mother
o' Mine." He invested this latter selec
tion with the terrible w-elrdness meant by
the composer, by emphasising the lines
"Though I were dammed In body and
soul." by working the leading motif up
to a finale and making the last note for
tissimo. This la as It should be.

the ballots were counted Bryan was

winning the wager. The count of bal
lots showed: Taft. 898; Bryan, 129;
Debs, 34; Hiagen, 1; Chafln, 12. Total,
2241.
A lot of people took the straw -ote
seriously and from 8 o'clock in the
morning until "Doc" closed his poll
at 6 o'clock, the corner was crowded.
However, the one place that the straw
vote was taken seriously was at the
Democratic headquarters Just across
the street. There, as soon as Ander
son opened up. the Democrats got Into
action. No ten telephones in the city
were aa busy aa the one at headquar
ters, and the order was sent out. "Go
and vote for Bryan."
All this helped swell the Bryan vote
and added to this were baseball fans
who knew "Doc'' Anderson and who
voted Just to Job the genial German.
It was a huge Joke to these Repub
licans and they parsed the word along,
only the slogan was different It was,
"Uo and vote for Bryan and help An
