By the nw loel flour price list which
will go Into effect this morning patent flour
will be advanced lO cent per barrel to
$4 M. There will b no change In tha other
grade
For om time past flour value In thla
tr.arket hgvt been too low In view of th
high prlra of bluestem wheat, and yester
day's advance waa for tha purpose of equal
Ism value. At the new quotation the
market Is decidedly strong and there la
every Indication of atlll further advances
In the near future. The fact that club
and the red wheata are weaker than they
have been la without effect In this regard,
as bluestem Is very scarce and held at high
figure. Exporter yesterday quoted bloe
e'em at f3w centa and oltera of 13 cen:a
have been made.
Grain futurea were steady at the Board

POTATO TRADE t XWATlSFAt TOBt. .
Sellera Price Above Buyers' Vlewa and
Crop Not Heady for Market.
The potato market la dull, weak and un
satisfactory to all concerned at the pres
ent moment. Farmers are atlll asking
around 11. but shippers claim there Is no
profit In potatoes even at 83 centa for the
California market. Arizona and Texa points
cannot be reached at all by the Oregon
trade, aa California atock la going Into that
trrrttory un a oi-cent baala. The local
market, according to the trade here, la
entirely out of range with consuming mar
kets and prices may have to be materially
lowered before much business results; In
other words. It Is aaaerted that tha farmers
mutt come down In their vlewa or wait
until Jnauary to sell.
Another thing that operates against trade
at thla time is the Immature condition of
the crop as ehown by some of the lots re
cently put on the market.

There waa leas activity In the hop market

are entirely negicctevl. The dvmand from the

are reviving ntost discouraging letters from
tha rJnstern traoe. In nlt of thia, however,
the crop ha been steadily passing out of
first hands and when the luuten and for
eign order come In they will be filled With
atocka held by dealers, not by growers.
Among the buslnrea reported yesterday waa
the purchase by McXerT Rrother of about
ISO bales at Aurora and Huttevllle, comprising
the isehml,it. ohlen and Meachter lots, all at
f cents.
Hop shipment from Oregon In September

CAR Of KASTKKX CONCORDS COMING
Trial tthipmeat of Oi-egota Apple Going to
Shanghai.
Local Concord grapea are coming In freely
and are gradually weakening la price. A
car of Eastern Concord grapes will be re
ceived here within ten du. Advice from
the Kaj-t that the crop la unusually fine,
as there has been Just the tight kind uX
weather tha year for the grapes. California
giaiee were In good supply and were weak,
eeoecially Muscats.
A good niany peaches were offered, but

DISPOSE OF STOCKS
Thousands of Shares Sold by
European Holders.
WALL STREET IS NERVOUS
Tone Improves After the Close of
Foreign Exchanges tTpward
Movement Started In Mor
gan Securities.
NEW YORK, Oct. 1. The political com
plications which have arisen In the Balkan
Peninsula threw a snadow of depression
over the securities market today, directly
those of Europe, while our own market
came within Its scope by sympathy. The
Influence waa contested her with varying
success, but the modifying effect of the
European situation on the efforts to up
port price was very oblou.
Discussion on the atock exchange wa
not Impressive In ft appreciation of the
political questions discussed, although much
was beard of "the concert of Europe, "the
balance of power," etc. No wide knowledge
waa required, however, to read the algnltl
cance of orders by cable from London
and from European center to sell thou
sands of share of American securities In
the stock market- Thl and other mean
of establishing credit In London has had
Its effect on the foreign exchange market,
where the call for remittance to foreign
points make Itself evident.
At the aame time bolder of wheat testi
fied to their doubts over the European ,ros-
Kect by the disinclination to part with their
oldir.ga. and mill owner showed consid
erable deaire to replenish their holdings.
The Government' liberal estimate of the
year's whoat crop wa equally ineffective
In reducing It price In the face of the
ractora of strength In the market. The
foreign selling of securities cbnwrged on a
number of stock which have held a lead
ing place in all recerit -apeculatlve move
ment, and the aentimental effect of their
weakness on the general list wa corre
spondingly great.
The Improved tone of the local market
after the houra for activity on fonolgn stock
exchanges had paaeed was further testimony
to the part played by foreign influences In
the early movements. Erie was conspicuous
and there was a steady and determined
accumulation of United Stale Steel. Th
election later of some of the Southern rail
road stocks for similar operations gave the
market some color of a distinctive move
ment In Morgan properties. News to ac
count for these special movements was not
offered.
The money market waa not appreciably
affocted by the political developments
abroad, call loan rates hanging over the
level of the midsummer ease of rates.
The cloaing tone of the market exhibited
much uncertainty.
Bonds were firm. Total sale, par value,
$3,430,000. United States bond were un
changed on call.

Active Demand for
