VANCOUVER. Wash.. Sept. 17. (Spe
tial.) The Vancouver Traction Com-'
pany. which owns the street railway sy.
tem In Vancouver, has announced that ft
expects to open the electric line the first
part of next week.
The citizens of Vancouver, in conse
quence, are' arranging to celebrate the
event with one of the biggest civic dem
onstrations ever held here. The first
cars to run over the line as many of
them as can be secured are to carry a
party of prominent citiaens and their
wives out to the end of the line in the
northern part of the city, where public
exercises will he held, with addresses by
prominent speakers. Following this, a
banquet will be held in the evening.
There are now laid within the city
limits two and one-half miles of track,
the line running north on Alain street
from the river, with a branch line on
Eleventh street to the new station of
the North Bank Railroad. The trolley
wires are all up and everything is in
readiness for the cars, which are ex-
t pected to reach here on Saturday. Sep
tember 19. "these cars having been shipped
from St. Louis, Mo.. August 8.
The Electric Railway Company Is at
' work now extending the electric line into
the country to the northeast of Vancou
ver, the line being now projected as far
fts the St. John road. The car bams are
to be located a short distance tseyond the
Araoda Park Addition to the city.
Held on Manslaughter Charge.

Charles Christie for a deer near Won
der, was taken from the county Jail
today, where he has been confined since
the accident, and arraigned on a charge
of manslaughter. At the conclusion of
the examination, the judge bound Uttle-
Tleld over to appear before the grand
jury. September 2R.
