Mining Broker in Tolls.
BAN FRANCISCO, June 24. J H.
Simpson, manager for H. H. Norwood, a
stockbroker of 306 Bush street, swore out
a warrant yesterday for the arrest of
M. B. Leaving. Leavins is under arrest
in Tonopah. Nev., and the warrant was
necessary to secure extradition papers.
The charge against Leavins is that he

RING BRINGSJN COOLIES
Syndicate Smuggles Chinese Across
Mexican Border.
SAN FRANCISCO, June 24. In Los An
geles, accordling to information gathered
by the Immigration authorities, there Is a
ring of active men, employed in smug
gling coolies over the Mexican borders
into the United States. The gang in
Southern California is believed to have
agents throughout the country and the
inability of the regular officials to cope
with the situation, has caused the De
partment of Commerce and Labor to send,
a special agent to make en Independent
investigation. The department officials
apparently take an alarming view of the
situation. From an examination of Chi
nese recently caught sneaking into the
United States it developed that the smug
gling of coolies into this country Is a
matter of considerable expense and that
the traffic Is financed and managed by
a well-organized ring.
Commissioner North expects when the
inquiry from Washington gains headway
that new light may be thrown on the
smuggling ring, but at the same time he
U positive that whatever smuggling may
be taking place Is confined within a lim
ited area, and involves only a few Chinese
at most.

TRAMP COUPLE DIVORCED
Hungarian Adventurers Took Wed
ding Trip in Boxcars.
CHICAGO. June 24. A dispatch to the
Tribune from Los Angeles, Cal., says:
A police court here was the scene yes
terday of the end of a romance of less
than a year, including a honeymoon
spent on brake beams and in boxcars
from New York to the Western coast.
The characters in the drama were Wil

Hungarian family, who fled his native
land to escape army service, and his
wife, Albina. sister of Count Kabana, of
Austria-Hungary.
They were married In New York City,
where she was visiting. He told her of
a fine job he had in the West, and to
save expenses she donned man's cloth
ing and they beat their way to Los An
wtleu. The trip was made in snow and
cold weather, and the woman suffered
much.
The husband deserted her here, and she
was forced to ask the aid of the po
lice. Koprlvlch was ordered to pay hoi
J10 and J4 a week until the divorce ac
tion .she started is tried in August.
