the boardwalk up the face of Tilla
mook head wide enough to allow horse
back riding to the highest point of the
head. !sitors to the coast next Wednes

of witnessing the passage of the battle
ship fleet from a commanding point.
BARKLEY IS FOR MANNING
Democratic Candidates Also Speak at
Woodstock Meeting.
Democratic candidates were cordially
received at Woodstock last night when
they addressed an audience of 60 in Wood
stock Hall. Bishop H. 1. Barkley was
the principal Bpeaker .and argued for the
retention of District Attorney Manning
for the good he had done while serving
the people. He also supported the can
didacy of Tom Word for Sheriff.
Mr. Manning spoke in the interest of his
own candidacy and was loudly applauded
when he referred to his prosecution of un
faithful bank officials. Mr. Manning an
nounced that he had no promises to make
end was willing to stand on his record.
Ho criticised his opponent, who, he said,
had made 'no promises, except that, if
elected, all of his deputies would be Re
publicans. "My opponent does not say what he will
do with the prosecution of the bank of
ficials or what his attitude will be on
the question of Sunday closing." said Mr.
3dunning. "-Me has simply said that he is
entitled to the office because he Is a Re
publican and I am a Democrat. He also
accuses me of having hired special coun
sel to assist me In the prosecution of the
bank 'case. Intimating that he. If elected,
would save the county that expense. He
lias had no experience in the trial of
criminal cases."
Mr. Manning also spoke a good word
for Judgo Thomas O'Day. who Is seek
ing a re-election. Mr. Word asked for
the support of the people for another
term as Sheriff on the record he had
made in the oftice. Oglesby Young, can
didate for Railroad Commissioner, and
Kd Cahalln, candidate for Justice of the
Peace, also addressed the meeting.
